A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.

The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

I’m betting the crowd was egged on by a media presence. Isn’t inciting a riot against the law, even if it does make for exciting footage on the evening news?

Nassau County Police are still investigating and would not confirm the witness accounts.

Look at the security video. Walmart has cameras watching....lots of cameras....watching.

As an overnight cashier at Wal-Mart, I can only say that people in small town Kansas are not that abd. What did Wal-Mart have that was worth rushing the doors for? Well, our store is open all night so we didn’t have a sudden rush at the doors.

I could not agree more. Last night’s news showed people already camping out at 11 p.m. for stores that would be opening at 4 a.m. NO thank you. There is nothing I want that bad.

These people are animals. I cannot even imagine it. It truly is a Black Friday. Can you imagine when the man fell that people next to him saw it and still walked right over him.

I have not really been too keen on crowds ever since the Who concert in Cincinnati back in the early 80’s where those people were killed in the stampede.

One must always consider that kinds of people that even come out for these things... a lot of them are the people who are very low socioeconomic status (thus, need the deals)and many are the greedy selfish types that will do anything to save a buck. Of course, some people just like the whole zeitgeist of the thing, but me? Well, I’d rather be having a leisurely breakfast with hubby....

Anyone watch "World's Dumbest Shoppers" on TV last night? Pretty much nothing but Black Friday mayhem.

Depressingly, my mom called to tell me she's going to be in line at Walmart at 4:00 am. I asked why? Because they have those little food processors on sale for $4! Mom, you already have one of those little food processors! Maybe I should call her to make sure she's alright.

I'm going to stick with my plans for today which are to stay home, watch TV and eat turkey and pumpkin pie until I'm comatose.

Circuit City was giving numbers to the crowd. You got there, you got a number, you went back to your car. No crush, no fights, no broken merchandise, no stealing from other’s carts.

I went to Office Depot. NO merchandise was on the floor. You got into a line, they called you to your register, you asked for your item, a worker got it from the back room, you paid and you walked out.

When I did do Walmart a few years ago, I was at the back of the line and when the doors opened, people rushed in from cars. They handle things badly.

We have refused for years to even go near a store on Friday, Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. I DO NOT go to malls after about November 15th until after the New Year. I purchase any gifts I am going to buy over the Internet and have the mail man bring them. I am not going to fight over some 10 cent piece of crap that will not last the week.

My brother's oldest son has two sons. Those kids have everything. They do not walk into a store that they are not wanting the latest toy, video game, whatever. I have told my brother and sister in law that those two kids have so much stuff they do not know what they have. You name it, they have it. Play with it a week or so and bam, it is in a box, in a closet, in the room downstairs. Recently my sister in law filled up six large boxes of stuff that they no longer played with. She took it down stairs in their house and told them she was giving it to the Salvation Army. The kids went nuts. YOU CANNOT GIVE AWAY OUR STUFF!!! When asked the last time they played with it, they could not remember. They had even forgotten about some of the stuff that she had boxed up. She took it away and you would have thought the world ended. Oh, well until the next day, when her daughter in law took them to Toys R Us and bought them over $100 worth of crap.

Valley Stream is in Nassau County and just outside of NYC (Queens). There was nothing much to Valley Stream when that shopping center went in some fifty years ago. Now it has grown as the area population has. It is the local shopping area and had become rather crowded the last time I was there, some years ago.

Arrest those on video that touched them.

Yup. That's the ticket. Forget the hundreds of others behind those that "touched him" responsible for shoving those that "touched him" into and over "him."

It's a sad state of affairs when people are herded like cattle into a building that is incapable of handling the large numbers. It's even sadder, in my opinion, when liberals and the media do everything in their power to destroy a company like Wal-Mart. They'll use this tragedy for as long as they can to try to damage Wal-Mart. One thing's for sure. I'll wager we've seen the last of "Black Friday" sales at Wal-Mart. I'll bet that will make liberals happy. :-{

“Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

“He was bum-rushed by 200 people,” said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. “They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back.””

I am from back east and my wife is from out west.

We went to one of these kinds of sales and I told her to stand back and let me fight over what we wanted.

She did not believe me until she saw it happen and she was glade she had stood out of the way.

Rather than opening up the sales to anyone, why can’t they identify their loyal customers by tracking purchases or by self-identification during the year and allow them to take advantage of special bargains at Christmas? At it is, the bargains go to the able-bodied jerks who push and shove to get what they want. I have little doubt that most of the people in these crowds probably didn’t realize there were injured people there until they were literally on top of them and that the push from the outside was complicating matters. I just think the store ought to focus on those who support them throughout the year and offer them deals without requiring a post-Thanksgiving rush.

Perhaps, but more likely there just aren't as many people. Huge crowds are dangerous by definition. It only takes one person to do something stupid and set off a panic, and a huge panicked crowd is unable to organize to act rationally.
