Yes...front loaders....Kenmore! My washer/dryer is almost 20 years old....also Kenmores...but the washer is making strange noises lately. My whole Christmas has been made by this purchase...LOL!
Sorry to hear about your job....I am holding my breath on mine too...I’m not going to get myself sick over it though....I’m preparing myself and remembering when one door shuts—another one opens. That is was meant to be.
That is excellent--I'm delighted for you!
Thanks for the sympathy, but you're right--it's a new opportunity. I'm working on my resume right now. Hope your job is okay!
My first job with this company (at Galena, Alaska) ended when the Air Force decided to close the base in 2008. However, with the F-22 being deployed they said they would no longer need a Forward Operating Location weather observer so I was let go in 2005.
The other base in the contract (King Salmon) stayed open but the weather observer couldn’t take the strain of worrying if his job was cut or not so he quit. I got a call in California from the site manager asking if I wanted to come back to Alaska. After a day of talking it over with my wife, I accepted the offer. They have guaranteed me a year of employment so if it lasts longer than that, it’s gravy.
My wife had back fusion surgery in April so she went on disability and this job offer came up 3 months later. Door closes, door opens! ;-)
I know what you mean by being priced out of a contract. We recently voted (union shop) to put any pay raises into retirement because we were also getting up there, salary wise. We want to keep the contract (up for renewal this year).
At least it's friday!!! I love my weekends. :)
Hey all! A special award to whomever guesses what makes this the Best of Rush...
It's a repeat! LOL!!
BUZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s because, I am here!
What is your opinion of your union? Sounds like they're reasonable if they voted to retire pay raises. We bash unions a lot on FR--I'd be glad to read about one that doesn't try to strangle the company.
Is mrs. hat recovering well from her back surgery?
I just checked Amazon for the book. It got 20 reviews, almost all are raving over the quality of it.
I missed George Carlin?! What sets did they paly?
His riff about man’s arrogance of thinking they influence the climate or nature.
Sounded like before he died, George had some of the scales fall from his eyes.
When I was at Galena, I was in the Operating engineers union. Not bad, got vested in 7 years for full retirement.
Here at King Salmon, I’m in the Teamsters. THey take a hefty chunk every month and I won’t get vested because I will need 5 years here and my wife will never allow me to stay that long...LOL!!! However, in addition to a vested pension, I have the opportunity to contribute to a 401K so as long as Pelosi keeps her fingers off that, I’ll have a little pile of cas when I leave.
My wife is recovering well. Her doctor says she’s ahead of the curve. She feels a lot better although now she is worrying about carpal tunnel. If it’s not one thing it’s another.
Oh well.
Sorry for the delayed response—too much going on! I’m glad your wife is recovering, and that your job in Alaska is providing some financial support. It’s interesting to read what your experience with unions has been.
Got to go now—see you back on the thread!
