to get a gun licence after months of running around, he couldn’t believe his luck. Given the tedious gun licence procurement procedure, he was almost certain that his request would be turned down. Seven months on, the man who has got both the licence and the gun, is still frustrated.

“In the last seven months, I have taken the weapon to the workshop three times,” rues Dhamija. “And it’s supposed to be one of the better guns,” he says.

The government was then forced to allow the import of one lakh AK-47 assault rifles from Romania at a cost of Rs 85 crore.

My ignorance of the Indian system shines. Here's what I've been able to get from Google and XE:
lakh = 100,000
crore = 10,000,000
850,000,000 rupees (INR) would be $17,145,739.835 USD.

With those numbers - which may be completely wrong, the rifles cost about $171.50 USD per.

$171.50 * 100,000 = 17,150,000.00

If those numbers are accurate, it sounds reasonable.

Ridhima Mehra recounts the ordeal she went through trying to get a licence for her late father’s gun.

“Even though my husband is a senior government official, I had a tough time,” she says. Now that she
has finally got the permission to keep the gun, she cannot buy the bullets that go into it.

“We don’t have a licence for the bullets,” she says.

So the islamic terrorists knew that nobody in those hotels would be shooting back at them.

The graphic on your page should be made into a bumper sticker.

I also want to see one that says "A Village In Kenya Has LOst Its Idiot"

Nothing will change until the politicians are disarmed first. Gun Control started when the people were forced to provide bodyguards to elected officials.

It’s interesting you have a National Rifle Association of India. Good job.

One would think that given Gandhi’s remark that one of the blackest deeds of the English empire was to deprive Indians of firearms, the weapons laws would be much more reasonable.

If it’s not been expressed yet, “Welcome to FR”.
