We are not “obliged” to honor their choice. If Barack Obama is not a citizen as outlined in the US Constitution, then he should not be allowed to assume office.

That requirement is found in the Constitution of the United States, Article II, Section 1, Clause 5: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

The founders put that stipulation in there for a REASON. A specific reason. A GOOD reason, one that is just as relevant today as it was back in 1787.

If the population of this nation decides there is a valid reason to allow foreigners to run for the office of the Presidency, then the founders, in their wisdom, included a mechanism within the Constitution to change the document.

The mechanism sets a bar of difficulty that is high, but there is a reason for that as well. We WANT the document to be difficult to change, so that if a change is proposed, there will be debate to ensure it is appropriate.

It was designed specifically this way to prevent any tin pot dictator or politician from proposing and enacting changes due to a hue and cry of the moment to a document which was very well thought out.

If you think that we, as a country, can disregard both the Constitution, and the mechanism included in it to make changes to the document (as you state in your post that “we are obliged to honor the choice”) then you cannot classify yourself a conservative.

“You imply there is some deception or hidden agenda on my part and that my only purpose is to encourage FReepers to move left. There is no deception, that is clearly my stated purpose. I genuinely believe that in order for conservatism to thrive there needs to be a realignment of thinking. “

“Is FR a place where it is possible to have meaningful debate, an opportunity to heal the wounds around the differences? Or, is FR destined to become merely the cheer leading section for the Rush Limbaugh wing of the conservative movement?”

Which makes you a troll, FR is a conservative activist site not a place where liberals come to debate conservatives, by the way Limbaugh has a radio show and listeners, not followers. Why don’t you include Jim Robinson in some of your effort to move FR to the left?

Look, I just gave an observation from my part of Ohio. If it offended you, I apologize. I’m not sure why you’re so insistent on doubting me, nor do I understand the mindset of belittling those who have a differing opinion and implying they must not be conservative (care to know the number of times I’ve been called a prude in the last year?).

I provided earlier examples using links of the birth control issue in Ohio. The fact of the matter is, we were hammered with lies regarding womens’ issues and the GOP did not fight back with facts. It cost us votes.

You have to identify weaknesses in order to prepare for battle. Conservatives are now the minority, not the majority. It’s been my experience that it never hurts to listen to the little people. Not everyone is educated, and not everyone reads FR. Those voters need attention, too - especially since it’s going to be an uphill battle for the next four years.

Again, my most humble apologies. I had good intentions, for what it’s worth.

As did I give "my" observation....I didn't nor do I now doubt what you said. And I wasn't trying to "belittle" you. Ha!! Why be so defensive?

Naw...I could careless how many times you've been called a prude. LOL!!

Conservatives the minority? This country remains center right...and very conservative on many issues. It just takes someone who can articulate what we "Conservatives" believe in....and then DO IT!!

Things like spend less than you take in...illegal immigration, marriage between a man and a woman, less government, etc...etc...

fwiw-

The ones that are driven away, weren’t there in the first place. Good riddance.

"on an almost daily basis."

Got me there...I seldom listen any more....2 years of endless campaigning has jaded my political genes.

Back in 2007 after our disaster I remember posting that we need a ‘conservative that can communicate’, and I got VERY angry replies that “NO!, we need a conservative that can veto”. Well now after two election disasters the brain dead robots of our party (including a neighbor I talked to) says everyone not voting for McCain is ‘stupid’

The ONLY 'winning' strategy will be to nominate a conservative who can WIN! McCain didn't come close....which is why the media chose him for us.
