P.S. I'm also convinced that the people in some departments at corporations (usually Human Resources) don't have enough to do so they make up alot of paperwork and rules and regulations to justify their jobs.

Then about a year later, they start pushing paper around and having meetings to make up more paperwork and rules and regulations.

Our hospital likes to have what I call their "Happy Days" where they have carnivals and picnics and give us a free token of their appreciation for all the hard work we do. Usually it's a coffee cup. They really believe that we clap our hands and get gleeful at their efforts and that we appreciate that they don't have to pay us a bonus anymore because they give us these parties that resemble holiday parties children get at school.

I consider them an insult to treat adults like this and don't bother with them anymore unless they have a really good freebie. One time we got fleece tops that I liked.

I overheard one of our pulmonologists at the hospital telling someone that he earned about $17.00 per hour for medicare patients.

Thanks for the ping. I went to a debate--one guy pro-"one payer" and the other against. The pro-socialized medicine guy actually admitted that the government will have force doctors to become primary care givers b/c too many doctors go into specialties "to make more money". The amazing thing was the number of numbskull med. students who, even after he admitted to them that government would decide what kind of doctor they could be, were still for socialized medicine.

just wait till the government forces them to work and not get paid.

They're already working and not getting paid. A friend of mine is a physician. His group writes off more than a million dollars a year. It costs them more to try to track down the people and they never get the money anyway. Illegals for the most part.

[A primary care doctor can be a trusted, friendly advisor who sees a patient over many years.]

I long for the days of the old ‘family doctor’ who knew all about you. Now you go in and are immediately sent to one specialist after another, often with no consulting between them.

My son in law’s mother was supposedly dying and when he rushed to the hospital [she was there 10 days] he got three different opinions from three doctors! She is up and around now!

“If you think health care is expensive and the waits are long now, wait until its “Free”, lol!”

Another way of putting it is, “If you like the US Postal Service, you’ll love nationalized health care”.

Already here. Several of the Docs at the local VA are foreigners and my grandmother in GA complains that she has not seen an American doctor in 3 years. By foreign, I do not mean ethnicity, I mean imported.

You didn’t read the article very closely. It doesn’t pay very well, even in Oregon.

If people think a litigious culture drives students away from medicine, wait until they see what government determined pay scales will do.

George Bush's last budget included a severe cut in Medicare reimbursement for physicians, reimbursements which have not risen to match the increasing costs of delivering services as it is. If you think that was a gallant blow for smaller government, consider: if your grandma needs medical care right now and can't find a decent doc who takes Medicare.

Statistics consistently show that the average person spends more on healthcare in the last six months of his/her life than in the entire life up until then. So it is a very large issue. Fortunately, the democrat congress overrode Bush's opposition and reinstated the preexisting reimbursement rates.

Important to remember that "failure to support with tax dollars" < > "forced out of existence".

OR "forced offshore." Remember Grenada? Rescuing American medical students? Foreign medical graduates are an increasing source of providers.

I’m an Anesthesiologist, and I am here to tell you that the average Anesthesiologist’s pay is NOT $400,000.

More like $275,000. Tops out at $450,000, and most make more like $250,000 unless they are in academics where it’s more like $180,000-220,000.

Eek! Remind me to not get sick. I fear for the future of the US. We will become like Europe - overrun by immigrants from third world countries.

No one wants to be doctors because they don't want to take out a loan for a quarter of a million dollars before they ever graduate. Add to that the med schools are not expanding and forcing students out continuously to "weed out the bad ones". Which is just a way to keep the revenue streams going.

Plus people see the govt controlled salaries coming and so why bother?

The insanely lengthy and expensive process of educating, not just physicians, but all healthcare professionals must stop as well. The goal seems to be to keep these kids in school as long as possible, bleeding them bone dry financially the entire time.

I agree. Schools have become a racket. It doesn't take eight years to learn how to diagnose a cold or recommend a specialist.

Yeah, and what about that absurd belief that you should get paid holidays??

And weekends, how dare you serf types want a weekend!

I tell ya’, first ya’ want weekends off, then ya’ want paid Christmas and Independence Day, then ya’ want sick leave

The world was better off when Dukes and Kings commanded serfs that they could kill with impunity!
