Israel is drawing up plans to attack Iran's nuclear facilities and is prepared to launch a strike without backing from the US, it has been reported.
Officials in the Israeli Defence Ministry told the Jerusalem Post that while they prefer to act in consultation with the US, they were preparing plans that would allow them to act in isolation.
"It is always better to coordinate," a senior Defence Ministry official told the newspaper. "But we are also preparing options that do not include coordination."

It is logical to assume that the strike will occur within the next two months or it will not happen until a critical point is reached where Israel has no other options.
Our current administration would be more likely to quietly cooperate than the next administration.

When “preparing to attack” gets leaked in the press, to me that means 5-6 months.
If they were truly preparing to attack, it would have already happened this morning.
I believe Iran is planning something for Saudi Arabia this summer, which is why I think Israel wants to time their intervention right before that.
I think OB will try to pressure them out of it.

A reactive strike would be really ugly.
I suspect Israel would say “Let’s flatten ‘em all” and decide to nuke Damascus, Amman, Riyadh, Cairo, etc...and let the chips fall where they may.
Israel can strike with more than conventional weapons and likely will.

You are aware of course that the U.S. has sold jets capable of reaching Iran and return as well as recently selling bunker buster bombs to Israel.

You are correct, VERY ugly as Israel would certainly use the Sampson Option. Israel is damned if they do and really damned if they don’t. The Democrats sweeping power here in the elections must be very stressful to the Israeli’s (minus the liberals over there of course).

From what I have read, the US refuses to give Israel the codes necessary to fly over Iraq, and since the instillation of new radar, I don't think they can fly over Turkey either.
The issue you raise I believe to be true. Yet the article indicates that while the Israelis prefer to coordinate their attack (radar codes) but that they could still launch an attack so they must have alternate plans.
Israel would be foolish not to have alternate plans. When the six day war broke out, we had an agreement to defend Israel, but seemed to have lost the paperwork. We will never no the truth of what happened to our spy ship that Israel attacked several times.
The Israelis have an apparent rule to shoot first and ask questions later; that incident has always destressed me being an old sailor.
The Israelis’ adage may be to shoot first and explain or deny later; otherwise there may be no later.
Despite all the stories regarding the USS Liberty, I doubt all the official lines. I have to believe the Liberty was supplying intel to someone, probably not friendly to Israel. There is no other logical reason for the attack, they could clearly identify the ship as American.
Don't forget we lied to Israel about providing support if they were attacked as a result of giving land for peace.

The story surounding the sinking of that ship is murky. The ship was identified as American and was deliberately sunk, we know that. The why may never be known and may be as you say.
I beg to differ. A barking dog bit the sh** out of my leg once when I was about 15. Barking dogs do bite, rattling snakes do strike and hissing cats do scratch!
Wasn't sunk, but severely damaged. It was attacked more than once. I find it hard to believe Israel made a mistake, so there had to be another reason, for them to risk it.
