"Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds,"

That's how you "celebrate the solstice"?

The equivalent would be if Christians put up a creche that said "Atheists are intolerant pigs" on it. But that's not how Christians celebrate Christmas.

“Why believe in a God?” the advertisement asks. “Just be good for goodness sake.”

Everyone thinks of themselves as good, decent people.

Wow...”stolen” right from the Rotunda of the State of Washington Capital Building!

I do believe homeland security should be called. Obviously Washington state has some splainin to do...if they can’t protect their own capital.....

OTH, they might want to look for a pile of ash, in case it was “zotted”.

The sign was not a statement of religion but an attack on religion. This may have already been stated.

Mark 10:18
So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.
Mark 10:17-19

“When people ask us, ‘Why are you hateful? Why are you putting up something critical of people’s holidays? — we respond that we kind of feel that the Christian message is the hate message,” he said. “On that Nativity scene, there is this threat of internal violence if we don’t submit to that master. Hate speech goes both ways.”

What could possibly be violent and hateful about a baby in a manger who never hurt anyone, loves everyone, and wanted to save all the unbelievers from their own sins?

Are these guys really that ignorant of the Bible? This is basic knowledge here, nothing nuanced.

I laughed out loud and cried at the same time when they said that Jesus was a figure of hatred. Such amazing ignorance.

It’s a good point.

I am not an atheist but it is interesting how we fail to see that there are bad atheists just as there are bad Christians and such.

It does seem like the bad atheists are really good at organizing.

“Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds,”

Religion is, Christianity is not.

Atheism or Agnosticism is a rebellion against THE supreme creator who does not magically disappear because we choose not to believe. It is more to do with the refusal to accept ones actions as having consequences because we like to think ANY thing that feels good must be right. They are “slaves” to humanistic dogma. They are emulators of the originator of all sin in their pride and rebellion. They say there are no absolutes a statement that is of itself an ABSOLUTE statement.
A relationship with God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is about more than “feelings” it is an inborn spiritual knowledge and continual learning of just what God wants us to do and NOT to do. The one we emulate is about servitude and humility not to be confused with cowardliness.
I have never met one as dead as he who lives with no belief in eternal life.

Exactly! Religion they say..What Religion? Scientology?

Wicca? Satanisim? well yes I agree....

They have no clue about the Christian faith, the relationship Jesus Christ has with sinners...

GOD will not be mocked and one day this will be ever so Crystal Clear to them....

I hope it was replaced with a sign that says: “If you believe in nothing, you’ll fall for anything.”

I’ve always thought that atheism is an absence of belief, but these creatures have made it into an active, aggressive hatred of religion and religious people.

That's because they are not true atheists.

Anybody with an axe to grind and too much free time on their hands seems to become automatically expert at causing grief for people who just want to be left alone.

What these folks, in their puffed-up, wiser-than-thou state fail to see is that atheism is a faith-based worldview AKA religion. Their blind spot is in their failure to identify its deity, Man. It is a lying religion in that sense - given than Man is God, however, and therefore the arbiter of all truth, I suppose there is no such thing as a "lie" under that worldview. Creeds amongst their denominations include Humanist Manifesto and Humanist Manifesto II.

“If you believe in nothing, you’ll fall for anything.”

But they do believe in something. They have posted their own immutable statement of beliefs on which their theology is based.
