General James Jones, Obamas choice for National Security Adviser, again revealed his staggering ignorance. The general might be an authority in conventional warfare - though it is unlikely, given his mere few months battlefield experience in Vietnam. General Jones pushes his hallmark solution for the West Bank: IDF moves out and NATO troops move in. The proposal reveals Gen. Jones complete ignorance of anti-terrorist warfare.
IDF is the only army in the world which curbed terrorism: from near-war levels in 2000-2003 to near-absence today. The success is due to two factors: extremely exhaustive intelligence and freedom of operations. IDF runs tens of thousands of Arab agents, from taxi drivers to the Ramallah government figures who squeak on terrorist attempts in progress. Some work for money, others are blackmailed and threatened. IDFs Mishtarah Aravit, the Arab Police unit, do the things which make Guantanamo a kindergarten. No Palestinian, a commoner or official, is immune from Jewish teenagers in the Arab Police squad. That might not be nice, but Jewish bodies blown in terrorist acts were way worse.
Unlike IDF, NATO troops dont know the art of vast intelligence networks; they dont even have a reasonable number of Arab interpreters. There is no way NATO soldiers would hang a Palestinian official by his [not neck] to force information from him. They will not blackmail Palestinians in terrorist-ridden villages with eviction of their relatives from Israel. They wont risk their lives very night in inconspicuous, mostly unreported raids of bomb labs. Besides all the training and operational issues, NATO troops just have no incentive for such activities.
US troops, the best of NATOs, cannot curb terrorism in Iraq despite massive presence on the ground and serious collaboration by the Iraqis. Whatever calm was there for a few months is mostly attributable to Sadrs decision to calm down to allow the US an honorary withdrawal. There might have been an US-Iranian arrangement to curb Shiite terrorism in Iraq in return to the US limiting itself to worthless sanctions against Iran and opposing Israels strike. US troops failed in terrorist warfare in Lebanon, Somalia, Vietnam, and other places. There is no chance of them securing the West Bank against Palestinian terrorism.
NATO troops are no different from the UN peacekeepers who failed miserably in Sinai in 1967 and now in Lebanon. Under the UNIFIL nose, Hezbollah increased its rocket arsenals fourfold since 2006 ceasefire. UNIFILs Italian contingent concluded a separate ceasefire with Hezbollah which wont attack their installations while the peacekeepers turn a blind eye to weapons smuggling.
General Jones wants to sweeten the pill of forcing Israels withdrawal from the ancient Jewish lands of Judea and Samaria by the fake security offered by NATO troops. In 1956, Eisenhower lured Israel into withdrawal from Sinai by promising to keep the Tiran Straits open; when Egypt closed them in 1967, the only thing the US did was to push Israel to refrain from preemption. IDF learned the lesson and protest vociferously the NATO deployment.
Jewish ultra-leftist Martin Indyk, ignorant and arrogant as always, has a suggestion of his own: US nuclear guarantee to Israel. According to his plan, US will promise to nuke Iran if it nukes Israel. Thats quite a post-mortem comfort for the fried Jews. Iran lost millions of its people in the war with Iraq which is certainly less relevant to the mullahs than annihilation of the Zionist entity; the US reprisal is not a great threat, then. The reprisal is non-credible: if the US objects to mere attack on Irans nuclear facilities now, whats the probability of America nuking Irans population centers? Minus one hundred percent, to be exact. Indyks plan is another sweet pill for Israel: this one, to accept the American ban on attacking Iran. Incredibly, Jews believe that Indyk is pro-Israeli.
With friends like these ones, who needs enemies?
There’s no doubt in my mind that the new administration will turn its back on Israel at some point. By the time people wake up to that fact, it will be too late.
To make matters worse they will turn their back on America.
You gotta wonder...

Send treats to the troops...
Great because you did it!
I think Iraq pretty well qualifies. The Brits in Malaysia and N. Ireland and the Filipinos, for that matter. Even the Euros beat the Red Brigades. Massive terrorism was destroyed in numerous S. American countries and is presently on its last legs in Colombia.
This notion that terrorism cannot be beaten is just not proven by the facts. That said, putting NATO in is perhaps the most idiotic idea for dealing with the ME ever presented. It presumes that all the two sides need is to be separated. In fact, one side is determined to destroy the other, which only wants to be left alone.
Terrorism would promptly be turned on the NATO "ocupiers," quite possibly in their home countries as well as in Palestine.
One could deduce, without a brain, that we have mental retards in office in DC with more on the way. Pray! God, help us all for we are doomed.
There’s a lot of these resume building, worthless “generals” around, usually backstabbers, ticket puncher (those that served know of what I speak) types. They just show up to get credit then it’s “been there, done that” and on to the next ribbon.
A kid that we know made his way through OCS got his butter bar, then 1st LT, showed up in Iraq for three months comes home with a BRONZE STAR. I was outraged and started writing officers and NCOs I know requesting the citation behind that decoration. Confirmed that he didn’t do a DAMNED thing to earn such an award, I was advised that it happens all too often with these little perfumed princes. John Kerry comes to mind—and others.
I could live with it better if they weren’t so dangerous, everyone treating them like they actually did something.
So, everyone who doesn’t support Israel’s interests over ours is the spawn of Mohammad.
US peacekeepers didn’t work out in Lebanon under Reagan, either. They are targets, and their hands are tied.
Rev. Wright preaches that today's real Jews are the Black man, women and children. Only they will inherit the Kingdom of God.
I dare any of you to watch You Tube. If you don't get sick, your not human.
After reading the bio of General Jones in Wikipedia, he seems like a very smart fellow with a sharp memory. During his active duty career he spent a long time in DC ... I wonder how the heck he got along with BHusseinO ...
“Theres a lot of these resume building, worthless generals around,”
True warriors are NEVER welcome in Washington as they
are treated like a pit bull..good when needed but too dangerous to their masters..
It is totally naive to believe that this is ignorance and not a shift in policy. Crisis is opportunity (Rahm Emanuel - 2008). Had Bush followed the Obama crisis model after 911, we would no longer have a congress or a Constitution. The new administration is about power and central control.
To achieve that, you have to scare the sheep into cooperation. Watch for a new crisis every time they want more of your freedom.
And now you know why they are retired. One nice thing about the service is that if you SCREW UP, you are gone. Period! Just ask our little metrosexual general who tried to start a war with Russia on an air strip.
That will never happen.
“US will promise to nuke Iran if it nukes Israel. “
add that Promise to the list: Promise to Kurds to uprise against Saddam 1991, promise to defend S Viet Nam circa 1975
the word of our government is worthless. And Israel knows it.
Ø is a disaster waiting to happen.
We have no intelligent people in power.
