(CNN) -- A 2-year-old survived an attack that took the lives of his parents, thanks to a quick-thinking nanny who grabbed the boy and dashed past gunmen to safety.
Sandra Samuel and Moshe Holtzberg were the only ones to survive a siege on Mumbai's Chabad House last week.
Those at the Chabad House were among 179 people killed last week when gunmen targeted several sites across Mumbai, including two luxury hotels, a train station and a hospital.
As the siege at the Chabad House began, Samuel heard the commotion, locked the doors and hid in a room. Watch throngs of Israelis mourn the dead of Chabad House »
"She heard Mrs. Holtzberg -- Rivka -- screaming, 'Sandra, Sandra, help, Sandra,' " said Robert Katz, executive vice president of the Israeli organization Migdal Ohr.
The gunmen reportedly went door-to-door, searching for targets. Samuel unlocked her door, according to Katz.
She then ran upstairs to find the Holtzbergs shot dead, lying on the ground with their son crying over them.
"She literally picked him up and made a dash for the exits, almost daring the terrorists to shoot a woman carrying a baby," Katz said.
The two arrived in Israel early Tuesday on a flight with the boy's maternal grandparents and the bodies of his parents.

“Islamic”
These terrorists are the kind that Pelosi, Reid, and the Muslim Messiah want to sit down and talk with? IMO, ALL American Liberals and 98% of the US Congress are without brain cells that function.
Brave woman. I wonder if she will be one of the “Righteous Among the Nations”?
Righteous gentile.
Wow, quick thinking and heroic. An amazing part of an otherwise horrific and tragic story. The parents were blessed to have her as their nanny.
Obama and Eric “would $500,000 pay for the pardon?” Holder are planning to release all the al Queda Gitmo assassins to return to their full time jobs of just this kind of mass murder.
They received the only communications that they understand, and came face to face with the devil.
Ultimately evil people. Hate filled.

Your comments about American Liberals and Congress are well taken.
We are obligated to resist this with all our ability.
My approach- I will not be pacified, subjected, re-constructed, or re-educated.
My family farmed in Alabama before the last Civil War, and were burned-out during Reconstruction. We have farmed in Texas from the 1880’s.
As to the Islamic terrorists...
I believe she will.
Absolutely. If anyone has earned that title it's her.
Kia Ora, mate,I saw this woman on Fox. She’s an exceptional
woman. She said she was treated as family by the child’s parents.
For those who aren’t aware of it, “Moshe” is the Hebrew pronunciation of the name we Americans know as “Moses.” A very apropos name...
Everything I’ve read about the murdered parents say that they would help anyone, for any reason, without regard to religion or race. What little contact I’ve had with Chabad over the years has been very good, and they’re deeply involved in charitable works.
May The Lord bless the parents, Moshe, and especially the “nanny” who could have fled the scene with a far greater chance of survival, but refused to leave Moshe behind.

Kia Ora, mate. She must have had exceptional presence of mind, to say nothing of Courage. Most people would freeze.
It wouldn’t surprise me if a group of terrorists targeted Sandra Samuel and Moshe Holtzberg to finish the job. We can’t have a genuine hero like Sandra living as a symbol of life and freedom - the opposite of what these terrorists stand for. We can’t have a toddler surviving this massacre and growing into adulthood as a free man. I imagine we could even find quite a few terrorists with the courage to face these two - although far fewer who are brave enough to face soldiers.
You have a gorgeous site!
Please pass the word.
Amen!, (even) “a bit of light, rejects much of the darkness” (From the holy Talmud).
We should have sent the Obamessiah over there to talk with the gunmen. They would have settled the birth certificate question for us.
