From my frequent visits to India I have seen that Israelis are the most numerous foreigners I run across. Then comes Euros and Aussies.

I just heard of such a place Goa last night.

The guy that eats ghastly/odd food did a show from Goa.

He went by camal to an area that is all Catholic (dont remember the place).

So he was saying Goa is a huge tourist beach place for world travelers.

Even a couple from Japan reconized him from when he did a show on Japenese odd foods.

I love that show.

Goa is a famous hippy destination of the 60’s. It still gets quite a large backpacker crowd. It was originally founded by Portuguese colonists when the rest of India was undergoing British control. To this day there are many Catholics.

30 to 40% Catholic; a legacy of Portuguese rule (from 1493 to 1960)

Goa is a worldwide destination for its NEW YEAR celebration. Imagine the Millennium bomber attack but on a HUGE (500,000 people) mass of tourists, rather than LAX.

I was actually thinking of going there this year, but after the Mumbai attacks and this news, I have decided against it.

I have an almost 7 year-old boy who needs me alive and well to take care of him: travel ambitions be darned. That principle (parenting) trumps any hubris about who's right and who's wrong.

And I am in complete agreement with you.

As a life-long and happy bachelor, I do not have that responsibility (nor the pleasure that comes from it).

I would be there if I could... and BullDog108... I hope you get the chance to be an Uncle, Parent or Mentor. It is the greatest blessing of this sweet life to pass on your wisdom (hard earned through our own assents and failings) to a young person.

It is my great privilege to have the blessing to be a parent, and with that comes the responsibility of staying in that role... no more skydiving. No more Ducati. No more spelunking in cenotes. You get the picture.

So Goa is out for me this year. But for more adventurous and independent FReepers, I would highly recommend India and Goa in particular as a destination.

Well lets hope the creeps get mysteriously lost by a huge sea swell before they make it to shore.

I have been watching alot of Hilter and bios on his top men (history channel international) and it seems everyone of these guys were Catholic growing up then left the faith.
I dont know why the History channel makes that claim for every Hitler henchman it does a bio on.

I know as a pre teen I turned away from my faith (being a brat) but amazing how quick that changed at 19yrs of age when a life depended on it.

Goa has long been a very sore spot for muslims as it has the only clothing optional beaches in an area they consider part of their Umma.

I agree. We were going to go into NYC this weekend with my 7 yr. old and see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, look at all the Christmas displays in the windows at Macy's etc...

Unfortunately, there is a lot of buzz about a possible attack in NYC and we just stayed home. It crushed me to change my plans because of those animals, but I am a father to a precious son.
