As for Paul, he did indeed instruct the Corinthians that the unmarried state was advantageous for the spread of the Gospel. His concern in 1 Corinthians 7 is not to elevate singleness as a lifestyle, but to encourage as many as are able to give themselves totally to an unencumbered Gospel ministry.

It is also true that Paul believed that the return of the Messiah was imminent, and thus that long term relationships were of less consequence than the pressing need to spread the Gospel.

Life is a wisp of smoke. It is likely that we will pretty soon be “asleep” and “wake up” when the Messiah returns. This is the imminent nature of the return, unless....

I’m dismayed that the Church has gone back to sleep about this issue. I tried to get people jazzed about protesting against another agenda-driven overturning of the people’s will by the CA Supreme Court, but no one in my church seems interested. NOW is the time to start making our voices heard about this issue, both in order to properly educate those on the sidelines, but also to make our voices heard in the state houses and educational institutions around the country. We said no to gay marriage for good reasons, and we mean business! Where can I go to go beyond writing to my representatives?

There are so many Bible studies at most churches. The ones that are educated about God’s Word think that all we need to do is show off to each other about how much we know about the Bible. I’m talking about taking the Truth to the world. Most people would agree with my picket signs, even though they are half-second sound bites. For example,

Majority Rule
Minority Protection

The People Have
Spoken - Twice !!

Don’t Teach My
Children Your
Morality

Majority Rules
in a Democracy

Down with
Judicial Tyranny

Courts, Stop
Overturning
Our Votes

Right. The elitist media has shown its colors. Chris Mathews was so impressed with his getting Obama elected that now his self-professed job is to make the Obama presidency succeed by continuing to be biased. Let’s get out there and protest. Someday people will see Americans who have faith and believe in traditional social institutions as a force for good, as a force to be reckoned with. Writing in these blogs is talking to ourselves. They are organized. Why not us?

Yes, but think about the college student who reads this and says, “Wow, Christians are hypocrites who are lying to take rights away from gays.” The next time he or she votes....
:::::::::::::
Our universities and colleges turn out many dupes. Sad, but a reality of the liberal-dominated faculty. This tragic situation will just have to shake itself out over time....as well as with parents (who a footing the bill) sending their kids to colleges with reputations of teaching and scholastic standards as opposed to politically-based achievement.

They are organized. Why not us?

Because they can. And we can't.

We can't even agree on what the definition of "Conservative" is. If you ask Freepers, the usual answer is, "I dunno, but whatever it is, it sure ain't YOU!!!"

We are a bunch of individuals. They are the collective hive. You will not see a united conservative party in your lifetime. Get used to it.

“...long term relationships...”

I disagree with your assumption. The Lord’s very own model speaks of the ultimate “long term” relationship, if you will. As a matter of fact, long term relationships were so significant that the Lord created both Adam and Eve (and this union also represents our marriage to the Lord through Christ[Bride of Christ]). Our Lord designed marriage, and yet He knew that there would be those who would choose to devote their service to His purpose of spreading the Gospel. And so we have Paul speaking specifically to those individuals.

I agree that we won’t see a united conservative party, but neither is the Democratic party united. The other side doesn’t need a united Party or definable ideology to effectively protest for their side. They have enough people passionate about their issue. Most of the militant homosexuals probably don’t even belong to or like the Democratic Party - too conservative for them.

If you are interested, join me on http://www.meetup.com/counter-protest-prop-8 and see if we can be united to do SOMETHING. Then we’ll report back here to show both sides that it can be done.

The pro-homo media always attack the heterosexuals on the basis of religion.

They ignore the fact that many people object to rampant homosexualism and "marriage" of queers on other grounds.

You don't have to belive in a supreme being to understand that some things just naturally go together and some do not.

If homosexualism was natural they wouldn't have to indoctrinate kids from normal families - they would be able to reproduce naturally.

Work Well Together

Old Sarge,
If you’re truly old like your handle says you are, then maybe you just won’t see the day of success? Just thinking....

This Newsweek nitwit’s entire “argument” is refuted, simply, by the fact that the Bible came from the Catholic Church — not the other way around. The Church existed before the Bible, and the collection of books were selected because they were examples of the Church’s teaching.

That I have lived long enough to see this nation walk the path to Socialism is something I never would have guessed.

Yet, here we are.

I believe that the Bible was divinely inspired. There were Gnostic “gospels” that said that the material world was made by an evil “god.” The choices of the books of the New Testament are not so hard to understand, and you could even make a rational argument that the choice itself is divinely inspired. God leaves nothing to chance. I ask you, sir, if you would join a group (even though it looks like you live in New Jersey) such as http://www.meetup.com/counter-protest-prop-8 even though, from what I can tell, you are a secular conservative. If so, why?

We also dismantled the Soviet Union and entitlement programs. We got rid of the scourge of slavery. We defeated fascism around the world (which you probably lived through). We snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat in Iraq. We defeated what was to us the evil (British) empire of the day. We kept half of Germany free for the day when it could be a united country again. We will defeat the new Bush socialism and the pandering to liberals. We need and will get a conservative leader in His time.

The things we want to do now are not necessariy for us, but for our decendents.

I disagree with your assumption.

It is no assumption; Paul's belief that Jesus' return was imminent is demonstrable in so many locations sin his epistles, that it requires an agenda to presume otherwise.
