SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA - December 8, 2008 (OWSweather.com) Rare 50 year Arctic Blast Sets Sights On Southern California.
With a week away, and a sure sign of things to come, OWSweather.com is making preparations on the server to handle the traffic from this next event. UJEAS is in line with the majority if not all the other models in keeping a near historical arctic air mass into the Southern California region.
With a warm November, Southern California is finally ready for cold storms to make their way in. Resort level snow will be likely next week, and in pretty hefty amounts if things stay on track. OWSweather.com Meteorologist Kevin Martin predicts a 50 year event. While Martin is usually conservative on these events, the pattern highly favors it.
"We are in a pre-1950 type pattern, "said Martin. "We know we are due for a winter storm sometime this year. The type we may be dealing with will be ranked up there with the known years before 1950, which set record low daytime temperatures into the forecast region. With this, may come low elevation snow."

Waa-hoo! It’s headed toward Phoenix! I’m tired of these 75+ degree days.
It looks ike NorCal will get a nice chill, too. :)
I get cold just looking at that graphic :D We deserve some change after the past boring years:)
Will talk with a few people including Gary from OC Register and post more news about this when more is given to me.
I hope it FREEZES out the Hollyweird elites who follow the Global Warming Religion. May they all get frostbite on the way to their private jets.
So...global warming is NOT the reason for this?
I don’t believe in Global Warming. This is going to shut them up if this happens. :D
I BLAME AL GORE! Where’s all the warming he’s promised us?!?!?
It has been pretty cool in Phoenix. I wore a jacket to lunch. The weather service says 65 degrees. I think it probably warmer than that, but clearly not above 70.
We were happy with Thanksgiving being warm enough for the kids to play outside.
could get kind of cold outside down there..
From what I gather, this air mass is due after the weekend. Not sure what it will do for Arizona but it likely would make it abnormally cold there huh?
Yeah, let’s watch all those Hollyweird types whip out those un-PC fur coats they’ve got. Heheheheheh.
No, the exception clearly proves the rule.
Hey, he's a politician. What did you expect? They lie all the time.
Algore is coming to SoCal!
Since heat rises, maybe some of the heat will be pushed up here to Michigan and melt some of this white stuff...
“It looks like NorCal will get a nice chill, too. :)”
So far in wino counties, it has been semi cold at night 37ish and back to the high 50’s/60’s in the day time.
A couple of hard core duck hunters were at church yesterday because of the lack of cold weather in Washington and Oregon to drive the ducks and geese downsouth.
About an half hour ago, my oldest son called from the Sac airport after his annual goose/duck hunting trip to Eastern Washington. It was the warmest in years, and the geese bagged (good hunting yesterday) were basically natives (tags) to that area. Nothing really from Canada.
Please don’t notify Al Gorebull Warming about this little change in temperature.
Those carbon credits are working!
Thank you, thank you very much....
Didn’t you see the movie “Day after tomorrow” or some such nonsense?
Checked the long range outlook for us here in SC Texas.
Could have some snow flurries by the 18/19th. Yeehaw!
Time to break out my electric jock strap to keep big Al and the twins warm
Yep.....I need to split more firewood. As long as the snow melts off, I don’t mind it. When I have to break ice for the horses two or three times a day, it gets old real fast. I lived in Los Angeles when it snowed in the ‘40’s. Just about shut the city down. Just a dusting but everyone freeked out.
Today is warmer but we've been below normal quite a few days recently @confluence of Columbia and Snake rivers
Normal for today is high 44, low 31; several days in the last week stuck in the 30s.
Record high for today is 59 and we're at 53 now.
That picture is about as good as they come. Reminds me of when I was young enough to enjoy it.
I want warm....not Cold....
Yeah, I see forecast lows of below zero to teens in eastern WA and OR Sunday and Monday. I hate it.
That means CA is in for it:D
They'll never shut up - they'll just switch to some other "sky is falling" drama queen type event.
Dang it — I had Locust!
I’ve got my 500watt horse trough heaters ready to plug in.
The hoax is that environmental charlatins would have us believe that, because the warming trend after the ice age is faster than the cooling trend before it, it must be unnatural; aka the fault of humans. They mention nothing about the most likely culprit of the planet’s exedus from the “Little” ice age, natural clearing of volcanic debris and gases from the atmosphere, decreased colcanic activity and increased solar output.
Please see my synopis of the “Little Ice Age” below:
For reasons still unknown, there was a very cold period that lasted five centuries from about 1300-1850. Most scientists that study this attribute it one or more of the following occurrences during that time: increase volcanic activity and/or cyclical decrease solar output and/or cyclical changes in the worlds ocean currents. (Note: human activities not included.)
Even more, in 1815, a volcanic eruption 100 times greater than Mt. St. Helen, caused there to be no summer in 1816 in the upper Northern Hemisphere. In face, there were 5 consecutive days of snow in the American North East in June!
Then, starting in about 1850, the planet starting warming up again. (Note: well before the industrial revolution).
So, the point is that there is no base line to judge the earths climate upon. The global climate goes through various short, middle and long term cycles. Like anything natural, there will be peaks and valleys to each cycle of varying intensities. No two peaks or valleys will be the same. One must also consider that our planet is subject to solar cycles, gravitational cycles from the moon, other planets and even comets and asteroids. (Note: comet or meteor impacts have also played huge roles in the planets climate history).
Is human activity contributing to global warming or cooling or even stabilization? No one can say yes or no or even to what extent. However, I would wager that we meager humans are no match for the power of nature.
Hmmmmm...a cold wave will hit So Cal. Oh no, it is the new ICE AGE!!! Everyone into SUVs and Private Jets!!! /s
You want warm? At Christmastime? not me. I’m excited that CAZ059 has a frost warning for tonight. :) Bring it on, old man winter.
This photo is terribly sexist.
Thanks for posting it for my critique. :-)
I really hope this happens just for fun. I live in SoCal, but am originally from KC, so I know the natives won’t know what hit them. I just have to learn enough Spanish to tell the gardener not to let my plants freeze.
The silver lining is my fruit trees will get a nice chill and the buds will set up nice for next year’s crop and its donation to the local squirrel invasion .. Obama and squirrels, what good are they anyway? They just sit there and stare at ya.. smug, their mugs saying ‘come and get me, punk!’
We need snowpack, preferably further north,, fingers crossed
Get ready to wrap your outside connections if freezing is expected in your neighborhood.
Pass this on to other FReeper CA residents please.
Dam global warming. You just can’t trust anything any more.
Global Cooling! :D
And ice on their wings.
It’s the “Gore effect.” Everytime the environuts have a meeting on man-caused global warming hoax, record cold saturates the area.
Al must be planning to surf Malibu with a few of his tree humping buddies.
This is caused by my ex-wife's visit to the State.
