'Anonymous' Senator Who Called for GOP Centrists Revealed
Human Events ^ | 12/09/2008 | Erick Erickson

Senate sources confirm for me that Mel Martinez was the famous “Senator Anonymous” from three weeks ago. Martinez, not wanting him name used, told the Politico “I don’t think we have learned much from the election in terms of what people want to see.” This senator said the Republicans needed someone who could “speak from the center” and wanted it known that “Sarah Palin is not the voice of [the Republican] party.”

Up yours, you pandering moron. Palin is about the only thing right with the GOP right now. The sooner we can purge these milquetoast, country club Republicans, the better.

Hey, Mel, Sarah spoke louder for me than your good ole boy system has in years. Go pound cigar leaves or whatever.

Not to mention any names, but the last person for the GOP who ran as a centrist got his a** handed to him by an avowed Marxist; lesson learned.

“speak from the center”

More double talk for move towards the socialist left. It's more proof the GOP is merging ideologically with the socialist Democrats. Dump the GOP.

Anyone remember the freepers who screamed back in 2004:

"Bill McCollum is an unelectable RINO LOSER - and Mel Martinez is the TRUE CONSERVATIVE in this race!!!!"

Ladies and Gentleman, your crow is served.

Yep. If they had stayed the hell out of it Katharine Harris would probably be in this Senate seat right now. But instead they force her to stay out of it until they had a better chance to throw her completely under the bus like say... in ‘06.

Fact is, if you don't get "milquetoast" Pubbies in a growing number of states you get a Democrat.

Olympia Snowe is preferable to Baldacci. Specter was preferable to Hoeffel. Martinez was an exponentially better choice than Betty Castor.

Those are your choices in a statewide general election.

There's nothing wrong with running a conservative against Snowe, Collins, Coleman or Martinez in a primary, but the bottom line is that most of these folks are as conservative as they can be and still win a statewide office given the makeup of their electorate.

You are not going to get a Tom Coburn elected in Maine, Oregon or Minnesota. Our fellow citizens have forced the political pendulum leftward. It'll swing back after some amount of time passes. That's the way it has always worked.

What I detest are politicians who are so presumptuous to speak for the entire GOP membership? Mel, you don’t speak for me and you don’t speak for the majority of conservatives and for those who have decided that Sarah has passed their eyeball test and that she is truly a superstar. You know why Sarah is loved by millions, Mel. She doesn’t presume to speak for others; she only speaks for how she feels and you know what, Mel, she connects because that is the way we feel as well.

Actions have consequences!

NATION'S FIRST AFFIRMATIVE-ACTION SENATOR

- Passed the bar exam
- Became liberal trial lawyer, donated to lots of politicans
- Elected Chairman of Orange County, Florida in uneventful easy race
- Ran actual campaign for Lt. Governor, got crushed in a landslide defeat
- Annointed Housing Secretary a few years later, accomplished absolutely nothing in office
- Received nonstop praise/worship from the RNC. Conned 51% of voters to elect him Senator because "it's time" for a Cuban Senator

Leads to...

NATION'S FIRST AFFIRMATIVE-ACTION PRESIDENT

- Passed the bar exam
- Became "Community Organizer"
- Elected Illinois State Senator in uneventful easy race
- Ran actual campaign for U.S. Congress, got crushed in a landslide defeat
- Annointed U.S. Senator a few years later, accomplished absolutely nothing in office
- Received nonstop praise/worship from the DNC. Conned 52% of voters to elect him President because "it's time" for a black President

Let's leave affirmative action out of politics next time!

On second thought, "accomplished absolutely nothing in office", should have been retitled "did absolutely nothing in office" Saying they accomplished nothing in office implies Mel & Barack actually attempted to pass things during their short stint. Nothing could be further from the truth. Mel's tenure as Housing Secretary and Barack's tenure in the U.S. Senate were solely to give them a "credible" office they could use a stepping stone for their ultimate goal.

I’m glad he’s not running for re-election. One less anti-Palin type that Sarah will have to save his you know what by making a last second appearance.

I know all too well how it works, I live in Oregon. Our state GOP is shattered and in ruins. However, accepting these "RINOs" give us the kind of creep that is inching us leftward as a whole each day. Besides, this strategy is flawed. Look at Mr. Maverick. Even better is Gordon Smith. His TV ads here were trumpeting how much the Democrats like him, and didn't mention one word about conservative principles. He got his ass handed to him.

The thing that really fried me about this is the way that the so-called "moderate" Reps are taking a crap on the conservative Reps (such as Palin). There's a war on for the soul of the GOP, and I'm going to side with the conservative wing over the globalist, me-too Republicans.

Martinez is just one of many liberals the Florida RNC has foisted upon us, Crist is another - good riddance Martinez and I will be equally joyous when Crist leave.
