CHARLESTON -- A federal proposal to tax cattle and hogs because of the methane gas they produce is causing a stink in the agriculture industry.
West Virginia Agriculture Commissioner Gus Douglass calls the plan ridiculous.
The claim is that greenhouse gases, produced by the animals' belching or flatulence, create air pollution.
People across the state have sent comments to the Environmental Protection Agency speaking out against the idea.
"I don't think we should be taxing farmers whether their cows and pigs are producing methane gas," said Charleston resident Brittney Reiner. "Its one more thing they're trying to get money for."
Douglass says if the proposal were to go through, it would be devastating to the state since beef and dairy are West Virginia's second largest agricultural money maker.
Pass the beef.
When is West Virginia going to realize that the Democratic party is not on their side ? They are foolishly Democratic at the state and local level.
There will be a public backlash that will melt telephone switchboards in DC if this passes.
WV Democrats are old school Democrats. They are NOT pro queer, abortion, or anti gun. Most have no clue what goes on in the Democrat party outside of WV. Most WV Democrats are conservatives, as you can see they voted for mccain and bush. They sure has hell did not vote for (for that n*****) Obama.
I think they are starting to wake up........VERY SLOWLY.
Do the enviro-whacko cases think buffalo herds did not produce methane?
But....but.....but Jay and Joe told us how good Zer0 would be for West Virginia........and coal.
Fresh
Air
Relief
Tax
Even if the methane problem were true what good would taxing the livestock do? The ranchers would have to raise MORE animals so they could pay the tax. And then the money would just be spent like any other federal money because there is NO technology to deal with methane in the atmosphere. The whole idea is INSANE. These bureaucrats are dangerous.
Termites make more methane than farm animals by far, who do we tax for that??? The most populated areas that have wood houses or heavily wooded states???
Should states that don’t keep their fallen trees cleaned up be taxed???
Should we set more fires to wooded areas to stop the methane production???
What other absurd thing can we extrapolate???
Why wait for it to pass?
Someone post the Switchboard phone # here so we can all call
NOW!!!!!!
I want to continue to eat beef farts or no farts.
I try to do what I can by eating steaks, roast beef, burgers, london broils and beef liver. All of them require dead cows, thus saving the earth.
Our wonderful gov Ritter wants to raise energy taxes to provide relief for those who cannot afford to pay their heating and air bills.
Their logic makes no sense to me
They are foolishly Democratic at the state and local level.
Hooked on Phonics Handouts..
Let’s tax all the crap, hot air and anal gas that comes out of Democrat politicians. That would solve the budget problems in a year.
The government already has required farmers to foot the bill to place microchips in the cows to be able to track them from birth (mad cow and all that). keep it up and no one will be able to afford to eat meat anymore.
