So, do the rest of you now have some idea of the depth of corruption in Chicago and Illinois, and why some of us were so concerned about electing a president who emerges from this cesspool?
There's no evidence to link President-elect Barack Obama to the latest scandal, but the arrest of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich for allegedly trying to sell Obama's now-vacant U.S. Senate seat and engaging in other attempted shakedowns appears to have stunned the nation, judging by the reaction of network anchors and other media. Brazen, appalling, unbelievable, they say. But for those of us who have spent a lifetime covering the news here, it's how it works.

It ain’t just Chicago and Illinois.
In 1974 a friend of mine from Brooklyn, N.Y. worked with me at the Pentagon.
I asked him waht he was going to do when he got out of the Army?
John Pondoliano told me he was trying to raise $32.000.00, the money would be used to buy or bribe his way on to the N.Y. Police force. Said he’d have job security for life and he would be able to make that back in no time.
Illinois is corrupt because it is a one-party state. Period.
Funny!
“But Barack is Black and Cute! That’s all that matters!”
"Ditka! Dat's all dat matters!"
"Blago's a TYPICAL corrupt Illinois Democrat."
They are corrupt. They are all criminals. Nothing they do surprises anyone who's ever taken a look at the place more than a second.
Compounding the problems you normally run into with a crooked politician, the Chicago politicians are also inherently evil. Their support of abortion and commercial trade in human embryos arises out of their interest in seeing people die, and the more who die, the more they love it.
If they could they'd sell their grandmothers, their own children, their wives, their brothers and sisters, into slavery.
Correction ~ the article says “There’s no evidence...”. It should say “No one has yet publicly reported evidence....”
“appears to have stunned the nation”
Not really. People expect that kind of activity from Illinois. This is nothing new — I’m surprised it took this long with Blago.
Blago has nothing to worry about, though. The One will buy his silence with the promise of a full pardon.
“The last Governor that went to the slammer here was a Republican...”
...who talked, acted and governed exactly like a liberal democrat.
It reminds me of the Godfather and the methods used.
Pelican State ping
After reading this column, Louisiana may not be the most corrupt state in the Union.

At least in Puerto Rico, Governor Acevedo was spared some embarrassment when he was allowed to turn himself in and be arraigned without handcuffs. The feds were not as generous to the Governor of Illinois.
