Skip to comments.'I Think Murdoch Will Get the New York Times'

How about Sean Hannity as editor of the New York Times op-ed page? Maybe O'Reilly and Cavuto in place of Dowd and Krugman as Times columnists? It might not be as far-fetched as it sounds. At least, not if Michael Wolff is right. The Vanity Fair media maven, appearing on CNBC this afternoon, not only said that Rupert Murdoch wants the Gray Lady, but predicted he would get her. MICHAEL WOLFF: I think that everybody is looking at [the NYT] and waiting for it to kind of go over a brink, to run out of cash, which they're in the process of doing. Or to find itself in a situation where actually, and this is really the key thing, they go looking for a buyer.
A bit later, Wolff, author of a book on Murdoch, mentioned his name as a likely buyer . . .
WOLFF: I think Rupert Murdoch would love the New York Times. I mean that is finally the capper of his career. I think that's what he wants. I believe that's what he will get. But all that's true about the newspaper business, but you have to add to it price. At some price the New York Times becomes actually a very enviable buy. And we're getting to that price.
OK, to be serious for a moment, even if Murdoch were to acquire the Times, he would surely staff it with newspaper professionals, as he has done at the Wall Street Journal, not with FNC personalities. Still, the image of O'Reilly hitting the intercom, yelling "hey Krugman! Bring me another cup of coffee. And make sure it's hot this time!" is not without a certain appeal.
Haha! Would be nice!
Hasn’t Murdoch turned rather leftward recently?
The libs heads would explode if that happened.
If Murdoch got the Times and hired conservative professionals, where would the rest of the lamestream media go to know how they should spin the news and what to ignore and what to play up. They won’t know their lines. They’ll be lost.
“Hello Maureen? Yes, would you please bring us in a couple of coffees, please? And bring your notebook as well, thanks.”
What page will FR get?
I think even if he bought it, I have doubts that he would tamper with the editorial pages. I think he recognizes it as a leading liberal paper and would probably keep it that way. He’d certainly make changes to ensure they make money, but I don’t think the news pages would substantively change. I wonder if Murdoch is allowed to buy the NYT since he already owns the NY Post and the WSJ. I know there’s a law against owning more than one TV network in one market. I’m not sure about newspapers.
Yes, I dont see any advantage to the truth having a monopoly in NYC either.
“Yeah, you’ll need something for your knees”
That be soooo funny ROFL
He should make the Post and the NYT switch formats. Heh, heh.
IMO, the only hope our country has for our children and grandchildren have a future that includes freedom is for us to expose the political, corporate, and union corruption that is destroying our beloved country. We must have people willing to investigate and expose those guilty of corruption.
** ... libs heads would explode ...**
before or AFTER the NY TImes actually became ...
Progressive Brain Aneurysm!
I think the Government will get the NYT. What’s for dinner? State run media mega corporation with a side of fries (or lies).
The news pages are why the paper doesn't make money.
People understand that editorial pages are for opinion. What they don't like are editorials masquerading as news.
