Student protesters pelted police stations with rocks and bottles, overturned cars and blocked streets in central Athens on Thursday, and police responded with tear gas, as sporadic violence persisted amid Greece's worst rioting in decades.

There were signs the unrest was spreading as violence erupted in several other European countries. In small but violent protests in Spain and Denmark, youths smashed shop windows, attacked banks and hurled bottles at police, while cars were set alight outside a consulate in France.

Why are hoodlums always described as “students”? Did they show their class schedules to the press?

At least 70 people have been injured and about 100 arrested since then

they obviously need to arrest more. These kiddies need to just grow up and get a job.

Unless they are in places like Seattle. Remember the wacko riots there a few years ago? But, generally speaking, you are correct.

In parliament, lawmakers held a minute of silence for the 15-year-old boy

Why do we keep reading about the shooting of that poor, poor 15-year old "boy" who HURLED A MOLOTOV COCKTAIL AT POLICE!!

The global media makes it out as if he was playing his PSP at a bus stop or something when the police just shot him for no reason. He was a damned terrorist bastard. What the hell was the police supposed to do?

The riots in Seattle were almost a textbook example of bad police work by those in charge. They hired a security advisory group beforehand who made all sorts of recommendations and then decided to disregard them all. They let things get out of hand because they honestly seemed to think that Seattle was such a peaceful and tolerant city that nothing would happen there, despite knowing that anarchists had arrived in town with the intent of tearing things up. Then when things were really getting rowdy, they got a call from their fellow democrat in the White House telling them they'd better have things under control when he arrived in town the next day, so they responded with an iron fist.

If they had just planned for unrest in the first place and arrested the troublemakers before things got out of control it all would have been uneventful.

Students don't sit at home and think, "Hmmm, I think I'll go into town and protest". Then arrive in town surprised to find a hundred or more other students just happened to have the same idea at the same day and time and place.

These riots protests are organized. The Students are just the useful idiots. If we delve deeper I'm sure we will find a Name for these criminal groups. Something misleading like Books Not Bullets. And deeper delving will discover, they are formed by some Socialist Organizer (another useful idiot) who has a searchable online history of being a Socialist Agitator.

The media will never report the deeper socialist connections of the rioting criminal groups.

from what I’ve read (don’t know firsthand as never lived in Greece), the problem is that they can’t get jobs — employment is at 10% or higher and most peolpe below 30 can’t get permanent jobs inspite of beign qualified because of the continent’s strict labor laws that prevent firings. So, companies are wary of hiring people (as they can’t fire them if needed), so they take on all of these folks as contract staff with zero benefits. In Spain they are called milleuros (or those who make <1000 euros) while in Greece they are called GEneration 600 (as they make abotu minimum wage = euro 600) — and that is an entire generation.

Young people have been out of way out control and rioting in any number of places recently. There is a new lawlessness ever since Obama got elected all over the world it seems.

No jobs.

The socialist “Utopias” created by these governments kill business - which is where all productivity really comes from. They also make the barriers to starting a new business very high. Those with a job and therefore in power don’t want competition so they legislate it...

The only real choice is to leave the country.

That’s what’s been happening in the USA (incrementally for the last 20 years-at lightspeed since 2000 (Bush’s Presidentcy). Unfortunately take that with manipulation of the currency by a central bank=massive poverty in a nation except for the “top-elite few” which mooch off everyone else (bailouts, corporate welfare, as you said ‘lack of competition, etc)!

"Young people have been out of way out control and rioting in any number of places recently. There is a new lawlessness ever since Obama got elected all over the world it seems."

Although I am not an Obama support, didn't vote for the dweeb, I have to say these kind of riots by students and youths have been around for decades. These youths are anti-capitalist anti-authoritarian anarchists and hooligans, mostly youths and students are involved behind the riots. They are nuts, I think they are crazier then the 'muzzies' and more destructive because the authorities are reluctant to use mega force against them. When they are done European and North American cities look like they are part of war zone areas.
French Anarchists Riot 2006
Berlin Anarchists Riot
Anarchists Riot in Italy, Bulgaria, Sswitzerland, Norway, Belgium, France, Nederlands
Anarchists Riot in Germany / Rostock (G8)
Anarchists Riot in Barcelona
Anarchists Riot in Gothenburg, Sweden
Anarchists Riot in Stockholm 2006
Anarchists Riot in Athens, Greece 2007
Anarchists Riot in Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Denmark, Latin America
Anarchists Riot in Poland
Anarchists Riot

BTW, most of these 'students' who are rioting come from well off families. The kid who was killed Saturday went to one of the most famous, expensive and prestigious private schools in Greece, Scholi Moraiti/Moraitis School.
