Minn. Supreme Court intervenes in recount case

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) The Minnesota Supreme Court is getting involved in the state's unsettled U.S. Senate race.

The court said Monday it will weigh whether to stop the sorting and counting of wrongly rejected absentee ballots until clear instructions are handed down.

Republican Sen. Norm Coleman petitioned the court to step in after the state board overseeing the recount recommended those ballots be considered last week. Coleman maintains there aren't clear guidelines for the recommendation and could lead to disarray among the 87 counties.

Did the court say the absentee ballots were “wrongly rejected”, or was that just the AP article that characterized them that way?

........since there is the precinct with the 133 ballots which may have been run through the machine twice. The additional 133 voters may not exist, but their votes will be added to Franken's total.

Is it possible to do this ? I did not even think of that possibility.

This has been the alternative explanation all along. Frankly, there should be a sign-in book, plus absentees or whatever, that should add up to one total or the other. If , for example, 2100 signed in and counting the "missing" ballots would mean 2233 votes, then they were probably duplicate-counted.

OTOH, if 2233 signed in, and all of the counted ballots, including blanks, under votes, etc, only add up to 2100, then the ballots probably did exist and were mislaid. It shouldn't be that hard to figure out, but I haven't seen either side making hard verifiable claims about those facts.

The usual method is for the Democrats to demand recounting until the Democrat wins, and then they demand to end the counting and seat their candidiate, while the hapless Republican slinks away.

That would be about 89 valid votes for Franken, all of which should be counted to avoid disenfranchising the voters, and 43 alleged ballots for Coleman, which cannot count because there is no proof that they exist, plus one unmarked ballot that should be counted as a presumed vote for Franken. Net gain? 90 votes for Franken. Next case?

So ... Did I pass? Do I get a lifetime appointment to the Minn. Court?

For the next Minnesota election, all blank ballots will be sent directly to the State Canvassing Board for casting. It will save valuable time several million citizens wasted in the past standing in lines. It will also clear up any misunderstanding as to which votes are Democrat votes.
