PHOTOS OF THE DAY

President George W. Bush is presented the Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan Insignia by Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, for his efforts in rebuilding the country.

First lady Laura Bush, center, reads a holiday story book to patients and parents during her visit to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, Monday, Dec. 15, 2008. Sitting with Bush are Dania Jecty, 11, left, and Elmer Reyes, 13, right, both are patients at the hospital.

QUOTES OF THE DAY:

President Bush on Monday said, "I told the President (Karzai) that you can count on the United States -- just like you've been able to count on this administration, you'll be able to count on the next administration, as well. It's in our interest that Afghanistan's democracy flourish. It's in America's interest that we forever deny safe haven to people who still want to kill our citizens.

President Bush on Monday said (to the troops in Afghanistan) “I am confident we will succeed in Afghanistan because our cause is just, our coalition and Afghan partners are determined; and I am confident because I believe freedom is a gift of an Almighty to every man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth. Above all, I know the strength and character of you all. As I conclude this final trip, I have a message to you, and to all who serve our country: Thanks for making the noble choice to serve and protect your fellow Americans.”

How incredible it is to see a US President on both Afghani and Iraqi soil greeting their top leaders in a friendly manner.

Who would have guessed it could be possible a decade ago?

George W. Bush is an amazing man.

President Bush is a truly amazing person.
How wonderful that he spent this past weekend with our troops, and with the leaders of two countries that now have their freedom because of his efforts. Hopefully history will give him the credit he so richly deserves.

Barney Cam was cute!!

God Bless President & FL Laura Bush! We won’t see their grace, style and elegance for some time to come.

Thanks daisyscarlett for a wonderful Dose!

His reflexes definitely seem to be better than some of his younger and supposedly fitter SS agents.

Remember last year how he literally dove into the crowd in SA to rescue his SS guy and this weekend, he sure did know how to duck!!!

I will never forget that. I was terrified that they tried to keep his guy out. And then when the President headed for the dining room and shot his cuffs, I laughed my head off. Talk about cool :)

THE ANCHORESS PROVIDES AN EXCELLENT SYNOPSIS OF THE PRESIDENT’S TRIP, complete with video links to both the troops ENTHUSIASTIC embrace of their Commander in Chief and a retro link to the President’s courageous ‘rescue’ of his personal body guard . . . As the Anchoress concludes, our President is one COOL CAT!!

BTW: I really enjoyed the Christmas Barney Cam! I particularly enjoyed the opening shot with the President, Laura, Barbara, Jenna and Henry (and Barney, Miss Beasley and Kitty) sitting around the fireplace — they are such a genuinely warm and loving family!!! [I wonder what happened to Jenna’s wrist; it appears that she is wearing a cast!]

I wonder what the troops in the first picture here think of their new CIC? They can't help but wonder if he will support them the way President Bush did. Will they re-up, or just leave after their tour is done?

Monday update from SNUGS re: Bryan:

Mon Dec 15 05:43:50 2008 · 189 of 191
snugs to LUV W; LucyJo; STARWISE; All

Just visited dad at the hospital. Though it is me still encouraging and feeding him he is eating more.

Lunch he had steak and onion pie and most of it apart from the thick crust where the pie is in the pie dish. Followed by a banana I brought in with a bought trifle which is about 350 calories in total. So with food supplement they gave him as well be must be up to about 900 calories including drinks today. So tonight need to try to get at least 400 - 500 calories in him plus hopefully another food supplement.

He was in the chair and hopefully will be able to do some physio this afternoon on his mobility. I will be visiting again about 5.00pm UK time.

Prayers at this stage that he will be able to stand being in the chair for about 4 - 5 hours a day in total and be awake and alert enough for physio at least once a day. Also that he will sleep better and continue to eat as much each day.

Sleep is still a problem with him not really going off to sleep until the early hours and then sleeping through breakfast and the early drug run. So this is still not ideal.

Once again many thanks for your prayers/thoughts and support Love
Eleanor
