Skip to comments.McCain refuses to endorse Palin for president in 2012: 'I can't'

Sen. John McCain said Sunday he would not necessarily support his former running mate if she chose to run for president. Speaking to ABC's "This Week," McCain was asked whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could count on his support. "I can't say something like that. We've got some great other young governors. I think you're going to see the governors assume a greater leadership role in our Republican Party," he said. He then mentioned governors Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Jon Huntsman of Utah.

What exactly was he supposed to say, without even knowing who’s running?
A dumb question and a non-story.
Maybe McCain is thinking of another run himself in 2012.
If the country goes to hell in a hand basket during the next 3 years, a lot of Republicans will be putting their hats in the ring.
With a widely split field, and Democrats crossing over, McCain could easily get renominated.
The ONLY reason I voted for this scum bag was because of Sarah Palin. THIS type of crap is the VERY reason I did not want to vote for the puke. He is nothing short of a lousy, media seeking, slob. You can leave now McIdiot. Your time has come. Leave.
He should of said he ‘might’ endorse her instead of ‘can’t’. He’s a wimp.
Great minds think alike. Dear Arizona GOP: Find a real Republican, run him against Juan in the next election cycle and bring the Fabulous Sarah to campaign for her. But first, get her on the morning shows before she lands in Phoenix and have them ask her if she’ll support McCain.
And let her reply: “I just can’t.....”
As much as I am loathe to admit it, I think what some of my Democrat friends said was right - he DID pick Sarah because she was a woman. Granted, WE wanted her in the worst way and it had nothing to do with her gender. All McCain saw was an antidote to Hillary. What he couldn’t stand is that she completely captivated and energized the electorate. His statement about “other exciting governors” clinched it for me. So why didn’t you pick one of them, JUAN?
Geez, he was more gracious to Obama-lini than to the Sara-cuda. Makes me wish I HAD voted for Cynthia McKinney now as a protest (living in Cali-phony-a, it's not like it would have made a big diff!)
To paraphrase Dennis Miller: McCain is a douche bag, but then I would be insulting bags of douche.
Don’t pick on John McLaim, he did his job and did it well, he helped the Dems elect Obama,a hugh majority in the House, and almost succeeded in getting a filibuster proof senate, although with him and all the other RINOS the Dems pretty well do have a filibuster proof senate.
Reminds me of a greeting card I saw years ago.
On the outside:
‘Knowing you has taught me one thing’
On the inside:
‘You don’t have to have a big prick to be one...’
I can’t say I give half a three-legged dog’s sh*t about what McCain thinks. In fact, I would view the McCain endorsement as a scarlett letter of sorts.
If you go to the candle store, you always walk by the shelf full of candles that won’t sell because they are bland in color and scent. They don’t inspire or interest. If you will look at the label on those candles, they are called “Milquetoast”
After the shower, Tim Pawlenty puts on “Milquetoast” scented deodorant. When he runs, his sweat smells of “Milquetoast”. Others in the same vein are as follows:
Christie Todd Whitman
All Rockefeller Republicans
Kay Bailey Hutchinson
And the list goes on
Bottom line, these type politico’s don’t care about the “direction of the nation” or “direction of the party” they only care about being in the middle of the cocktail circuit and “mattering” in a social sense. Even if they make some altruistic claim that they do care, it doesn’t matter. They have no core belief set that they act around. Their entire political life is based upon small tactical moves to get media attention for a day or two. As a result, no belief system is advanced or achieved.
In conclusion, McCain can keep his endorsement. Or better yet, give it to Mitt Romney so we can sink that ship before it leaves harbor. Maybe Nicole Wallace and Steve “Schmidt Storm” Schmidt will see their way down with their master and commander.
Women used to be notorious for their jealousy factor. Sad to see the GOP men taking top honors since Palin came on the scene. I truly thought we were above having a good ol’ boy network; I was wrong.
Senator, there are probably two people in the country who care if you support Sarah Palin.
Lady saved his ass. Without her he’d have gone down like McGovern.
I don't know what he meant but I suspect he was just refusing to comment at this time, long before the race has even begun.
There may be a dig at Palin in there, but to boil his comment down to "I can't" is to blindside him.
McCain the loss would have been larger without Sarah Palin.
McCain needs to go back to his party....the one that put forward his imminent death because of skin cancer.
Bush1 was loyal to Quayle- you see how far that got him.
Nice display of loyalty, McCain. /S
