A new state commission says the Alaska governor ought to get a $25,000 a year raise. Asked to figure out how much Alaska should pay its top officials, the group recommends pay hikes for the lieutenant governor, department heads and legislators too. We need the best people we can get to do some pretty tough jobs against some often incredibility well-financed, single-minded corporate and individual interests, said Rick Halford, a former legislator and chairman of the new State Officers Compensation Commission. Deciding how much to pay themselves is always a thorny proposition for politicians who answer to an ever-skeptical public. Todays national recession and relatively low oil prices wouldnt make it any easier. Enter the new five-member commission, created by the Legislature earlier this year to take the decision out of lawmakers hands. The members are appointed by the governor with two selected from lists recommended by legislative leaders. The panel came up with a list of recommendations over the weekend and is looking for the public to weigh in at a meeting Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office.

Oh, and always, the out of state Obamanites and lefties are busy in the comments section.. losers.
Meh. Don’t care.
Only two types become politicians: corrupt bastards that want power and honest people that are crushed.
The pay isn’t a major issue for most politicians.
hmmm not a good idea
She deserves a raise to 150K! It is ranked 24th amongst governor pay. If she chooses to donate the money then, that is her choice :)
I am opposed on principle to such measures. High salaries do not keep office-holders from making a profit from their office. Given the recognition they receive, they are usually able to parley their associations into good jobs after they leave office.
Try getting a proof reader first. Sheesh.
And public officials who oppose gay marriage or abortion should get free fire insurance for their churches.
I hope she turns it down too I don’t think any politician deserves a raise we are in deep trouble and and she should set an example as well as the others that if the people who support them have to suffer then so should they.
I dream of Heinlein’s system. Let each Candiate show his/her salary requirement ON THE ballot.
Then, let the voters have a chance to elect a Dollar-a-Year guy, or PAY MORE for some Party Favorite.
No gov’t employee deserves a pay raise in today’s economic climate, not even the (few) good ones like Palin.
the talking heads on Anchorage AM radio prety much against the raise.
Me? Give it to her. The boss should make as much as the people that work for them....
Given the collapse of oil revenues, she ought to set an example by making the governorship a $1/year job until the fiscal crisis is past.
