Marine Dad Surprises His Son By Coming Home From Iraq

It was a surprise the entire Pittsburg Primary school knew about, but little did five year old Cameron Dickson know, he was in store for an early Christmas surprise.

Cameron's Dad, who he hasn't seen in a year came up behind him and surprised him with a big hug. It was an early Christmas gift. Cameron's Marine Dad is now home back, in East Texas from fighting in the Iraq war

"It was rough being in Iraq.  It's hard leaving  your family but it's all worth it in the end. Cameron was definitely surprised and he's grown like a weed. It was a good feeling for me," said Corporal Dickson.

"I'm happy to see him and I missed him," said Cameron.

Not only is Cameron happy to see his dad his Pittsburg classmates are glad he's home too.

"Family is everything and it was a good feeling to come home and see a lot of support from the school because we don't really get it in Iraq," said Corporal Dickson.

"I called Cameron's teacher on Wednesday and she let me know that the surprise welcome was going to happen but I wasn't expecting it to be this big. It was great and it made me cry," said Ashley, Harrell, Cameron's Mother.

With so much support from patriotic East Texas youngsters Corporal Dickson and his son are sure to never forget this moment.

Now, all that's left is to spend some quality time together.

"It's been a year since they've seen each other and it's time for them to be together. I'm glad that it gets to happen at Christmas."

I love these stories. For all my bluff and blunder I always tear up when I read or see something like this. Thank God we still have men and women willing to make hard sacrifice for this country.

I have actually been to Pittsburg and grew up about 30 minutes from there in Gilmer. East Texas produces some hardy folks, I tell you.

Me too. But I definitely shouldn’t read them during work hours. They ruin me for awhile.

These are great stories!! I am very happy to see that the schools are so cooperative to allow the element of surprise and allow the media so that the rest of us to see this.

My only question upon reading this is why does Cameron’s mom have a different last name than his or his dad’s?

Welcome home Corporal. Enjoy the time with your family. Since your son hasnt seen you in a year, he deserves a pony and two puppies for Christmas.

Because of the strange placement of the comma after her first name, I wonder if it is a typo adding Harrell?
