For over two and a half years, the unjust prosecution and imprisonment of U.S. Border Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean has weighed heavy on the hearts and minds of millions of Americans.

Commute their sentences, yes. The mandatory sentences are too harsh.
Pardon them, no.
They broke Bush’s law. They insulted Sutton’s world. Otherwise they should have never been prosecuted for trying to keep us safe from a degenerate, illegal alien drug dealer.
I hope you’re wearing asbestos underwear, FRiend!!
They broke the law yes, but the punishment did not fit the crime. My personal opinion is that reassignment would have been in order, but that’s just me...
I agree with Congressman Rohrabacher ...laws are not important, feelings are.
I dont feel like these folks belong in jail so lets let em go.
They should have been fired, maybe, for violating procedure. They should not have been charged with a felony.
They need to be sent home now. Call it demagoguery if you want to, they should never have been put through what they’ve been put through. They aren’t the only ones Sutton has done this to.
Fixd
Unfortunately, the sentence length is mandatory. :(
“These guys are in prison because they broke enforced the law.”
And stepped on some well-connected drug lord’s toes.
But the prosecution choices were not.
Get them out now! They are heroes NOT felons.
If the elitist Bush neglects to pardon them I’m out of the stupid GOP.
Hear that? No more money for stupid McCain types and any kind of Bush from this household...
Yep -- bad news to take down the favored son of the open borders crowd. Nice to know that some people here support illegals over border enforcement (not you, obviously).
If Bush commutes this traitor and doesn't Ramos & Campean. There will be some 'splain' to do.
Well...eleni121.... you can join the ranks of the growing chorus of unhappy folks.... The big tent Rinos are dead lost.
This would be worthy pardon. Protecting the homeland is what he wants his ‘legacy’ to be. These guys have done way to much time for protecting us. Maybe a few months from what I’ve read would have been realistic. This sentence is ridiculous and wrong IMO.
Illegal aliens were breaking the law!
Illegal aliens are free for breaking the law..
Law enforcement officers are imprisoned for enforcing the law!
Enough is enough. I guess I’m a paleo conservative-—I sure as hell am not a NEO con. We need to shut down the borders ..NOW! To all except those who are escaping anti Christian death attacks.
Right now we are letting in the very animals who are willing to kill Christians (and sometimes Jews) and dedicated to that cause.
You lost me there, Dana. I'd take you more seriously if you at least demonstrated that you've read the Appeals Court decision.
When Dana gets serious about changing the existing law which congress enacted then I’ll believe he’s doing something more than just grand standing.
You are a liar!!!
All who read the article will know that the agents did not commit the crime that they were charged with. Prosecution is properly limited to the intent behind creating a statute—not what imaginations of activist judicial officials decide for interpretation in a single case.
It’s good to see Dana abandoning liberal-tarianism on this issue. The Californian Ideology is antagonistic to morality and the antithesis of our Constitution.
SoCal Ping!

Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!
If you want on or off this ping list, please FReepmail me.
They should have gotten a departmental slap on the wrist, which is the excepted punishment for improper paperwork-filing. Instead they get thrown in jail for a decade.

The judge had no discretion. The sentences were mandated by law. :(
Well...yeah....
In my town... I am now the minority....
Send all of these folks to Crawford, Texas. Let them deal with the nonsense.
I said in #5 here that reassignment was IMO appropriate. To another spot ;) These guys need to be freed.
You should argue that the judges involved here are taking a stand against legislative complacency (which leads to judicial activism).
No. I’m just an opinionated SOB. :)
Never heard of the term “railroaded” eh?
They got the nifong treatment...you appluad...
Begone from the ranks of logic.
Shot an illegal in the ass. Deserve medals, not jail.
Sutton should get the same punishment as Nifong.
and a bah, humbug to you.
You’re misinformed to compare Sutton with Nifong
Which one is sleazier?
“Youre misinformed to compare Sutton with Nifong”

Commute their sentences. Would be a nice Christmas present. They don’t deserve to be in solitary confinement or service a sentence that is more severe than the criminal illegal alien they were trying to arrest.
I too would like to see their sentences commuted.
Go Congressman Rohrbacher!
I agree with Rohrabacher. What they have served already is too much for their “crimes.” Bring them home to raise their kids.
Do you believe that the drug smuggler carrying 700 pounds of marijuana was not armed with a gun? Have you ever heard of drug smugglers not being armed? Every time that I have read a local newspaper story, or watched the local news or watched a crime program on television, the drug dealer/smuggler have guns in their possesion.
There is something dirty going on here. If someone from the Mexican government isn’t protecting their drug money, then I don’t know what else it could be.
President Bush has too many close ties to Mexico.
