NY officials want older trucks fitted with emission-reducing equipment; cost put at $195M
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- New York is taking steps to reduce diesel emissions in its construction fleet. The Department of Environmental Conservation is floating proposed regulations requiring trucks made before 2007 to be fitted with emissions-reducing equipment and to use ultra-low-sulfur fuel by 2011.
The new regulations would apply only to state-owned trucks or trucks used for state contract work. The DEC estimates it will cost $195 million to retrofit about 30,000 state trucks.

I can’t remember where I heard it but it would boost the price of a new vehicle past $20K. I know some are past that already but I’m talking more of the basic vehicles.

Sounds like more of the bull crap the particle collectors they have in the new diesels exhaust systems a complete framacation.. The injectors send a burst of fuel down there to burn them to ash once in a while then you replace it when full ..I guess just More half thoughts in action..

Governor Moron needs to go back to his crack and pot smoking and leave running the state to intelligent people.

The State has already begun converting, they called in the local news media to report on the greening of the state fleet.

Good point, but read the article!
This only involves state-owned vehicles. It may actually be part of a COST-SAVING measure, too -- if they are retrofitting older trucks instead of buying new ones. New trucks already have the low-sulfur diesel engines described here.

$6,500 per vehicle. Now, you have to do this to 30,000 vehicles. Thinking that it is a municipal union, how long would it take to do all of them and who would do the installation?

It's total static economics, something the ‘Rats have been doing for years. Eleven years ago, I was living in Bawlmer, how ‘bout dem Ravens, hon, the city population was decreasing, everyone was moving to the county, the mayor of B’more was talking about how they had to raise taxes as the population base was shrinking...ya think?
Let's see, raise taxes, people leave...hmmm...raise taxes again because there's less people...people leave again...$%^%, it'll come to me, I know, wait, I got it, let's raise taxes on the people that are left, that's the ticket...hey, where is everyone going?
I also love the NYS union ads that portray NY as a union-friendly state as they have some of the highest percentage of union job growth in the country - yes, they are all state employee union jobs!
I work for an endangered species here in upstate NY - a medium-sized manufacturing company. We put a plant in Texas a couple of years ago, which was a great move on our part. My wife and I are seriously considering moving there to just get out of Dodge all together - this state will implode within the next two years.
NY was rated again by the WSJ as the 49th ranked ‘business-friendly’ state in the US, and it won't get any better any time soon. I am amazed at the (lack of) logic and intelligence that runs this state. And it's a shame - anyone who has visited the Central NY/Finger Lakes area as well as the Adirondack area can tell you this is one beautiful state.

It’s great that you have a choice to move. The Founding Fathers were so wise, among other things, they set up indiviual states, giving them the chance to experiment with various things, including levels of taxation.

new regulations would apply only to state-owned trucks or trucks used for state contract work.Nothing like raising the price of doing business with the state. You s'pose that extra cost will show up in the bidding process somewhere? Like any other expense. I bet it will.
