Re: Internet privacy.

I noticed that a couple of photos on my photobucket album were unilaterally removed today by an unknown entity.

The photos were all variations of the shopped images of the mohammed cartoon with the explosive device under his muslim headgear, including the one that depicted obama’s head and the image on urinals.

I thought it was a curious development.

Except for live concerts, acting, or worse ads, there is no money left.

True.

For a resource to be profitable, it must be 'controlled'.

I have an expectation of privacy on the internet.

Merely a myth.

The only way privacy comes about on the internet is through personal respect.

Something this country has lost a lot of.

It it illegal, if the source of the recording is not paying the proper fees to the owner of the music.

The legal challenge is that these ‘sources’ (individuals) are using the property and services of a corporation to do so, and that puts the corporation in liability.

So, what can (and should) they do to stop the illegal use of their services?

The “expectation of privacy” is a legal concept. And while the standard is more loosely applied on the internet, it’s not a “myth”. David Kernell was arrested just a couple months ago for hacking Palin’s email account: i.e. violating her expectation of privacy.

You have to lay off the Flav. He is an extreme example of what a Capitalist can accomplish. He is very talented and can play a number of different instruments. His best talent is his ability to promote and reinvent himself. He is simply a clown that makes tons of money.

Nobody’s suggesting that Da Flav shouldn’t be able to do what he wants, or make as much money as he wants.
I would only suggest that Da Flav is emblematic of some of the reasons why MANY people have become turned off to much of modern music. If that obviously broad and sweeping characterization doesn’t apply to you then that’s fine too and please enjoy your Flava Flav CD collection in happiness and peace.

Copy of RIAA's new enforcement notice to ISPs Digital Media - CNET News

RIAA's New Piracy Plan Poses a New Set of Problems - washingtonpost.com

(edit)

Effectively, RIAA has turned itself into the sheriff, and your ISP into its deputy. Based on the same data gathering and user identification methods that have come under fire from the start, RIAA will now be able to get your Internet access limited or discontinued on its own if it for some reason flags you as an illegal filesharer. And I'm not the only one left feeling a little wary about that.

"This means more music fans are going to be harassed by the music industry," saysFred von Lohmann, senior staff attorney of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

"The problem is the lack of due process for those accused," von Lohmann continues. "In a world where hundreds of thousands, or millions, of copyright infringement allegations are automatically generated and delivered to ISPs, mistakes are going to be made. ... Anyone who has ever had to fight to correct an error on their credit reports will be able to imagine the trouble we're in for."

Are you saying you don't have Flavor Flav’s 2007 Christmas hits?

I regret that my poor taste in music leaves the "Flava Flav" section in my CD collection rather bare.  I fully understand the sentiment, however, that "Nothing says Christmas like da Flava" and I know that I'm missing out....it seems that Flava's epic records are things that one needs to grab right when they're released, as they have a tendency to be discontinued fairly quickly....surely a sign of Honky's iron bootheel on his neck, always keepin' a brutha down.  It appears, however, that I can still get used copies of his cataclysmic "live" album and so I should probably do that in order to bring some true culture into my desolate existence and to reassure my homies that I'm still a playa.

Thank you for your response.

The “expectation of privacy” is a legal concept.

Yes. A concept and not a hard and fast rule of law. But I agree with the concept.

And while the standard is more loosely applied on the internet, it’s not a “myth”.

I understand that. I was referring to the concept that the internet somehow provided some sense of privacy. I mean the blind belief that you are 'anonymous' on the internet. Sure, there are ways to remain that way, but most people don't bother, don't need to, or don't know how to.

David Kernell was arrested just a couple months ago for hacking Palin’s email account: i.e. violating her expectation of privacy.

This is what I am talking about. Just as one can remain 'anonymous', one can violate another's privacy. There are tools for both.

The fact that this article is discussing them singling out individuals who violate copyright laws, is another facet of just how far does your 'expectation of privacy' go.

“If the customers continue the file-sharing, they will get one or two more emails, perhaps accompanied by slower service from the provider”

Fascist.
