Bernie Buescher (D) is Colorado’s next secretary of state

Gov. Bill Ritter has picked state Rep. Bernie Buescher as Colorado’s next secretary of state.

“Thank you for the confidence,” Buescher told the governor. “I will work hard and try to do a good job.”

Ritter announced his pick at a news conference in his office this morning. The position came open when Mike Coffman was elected to congress. In all, 20 people applied; that number was whittled to three finalists, including Buescher, as well as outgoing House Speaker Andrew Romanoff and Senate Majority Leader Ken Gordon.

During the news conference, Ritter thanked all for applying, and said Buescher is a proven leader with a diverse group of experience, including in private business and in government. Ritter described the list of applicants as having an “embarrassment of riches” worth of talent, but in the end picked Buescher, whom he described as “a proven leader.”

I believe that Bernie Buescher is the person among all the people who should be the secretary of state,” Ritter said.

Buescher, a state representative from Grand Junction, was expected to become the next speaker of Colorado’s House of Representatives until he lost his reelection bid to Republican Laura Bradford.

Buescher will now serve as secretary of state until at least 2010, when the seat is up for election.

The Republican Mike Coffman is leaving this office as he was elected to congress.

Sec of State is the last office we need democrats in. :(

Now there will be just 1 Republican in statewide office in Colorado, the AG.

Coffman shouldn’t have run for congress.

And he's running for the Senate in 2010.

Interesting thing is that Beuscher was defeated for reelection this year.

Yup, and SoS is a key seat, too. It’s why I opposed Coffman’s candidacy. I believe Gilligan-Sebelius in KS will appoint a Democrat to replace Lynn Jenkins as Treasurer.

And one wonders how useful having a Republican is.

Given audio of an undercover sting of Planned Parenthood
advising a client posing as an underage girl with an adult
male “boyfriend”, John Suthers’ office stated that there
was nothing that could be done to hold PP accountable
for their failure to report sexual abuse of a minor and for
advising the minor to call back and omit the age of the
male.

Dereliction of duty comes to mind.

And he's running for the Senate in 2010.

Good. That seat is a must pickup. His office is up for election in 2010 so he wouldn't be handing it to an appointed rat like Coffman did.

Interesting thing is that Beuscher was defeated for reelection this year.

He was to be the next rat House Speaker. But his heavily Republican seat turned him out! But there's Ritter to help him avoid having to find honest work.

Yup, and SoS is a key seat, too. It’s why I opposed Coffman’s candidacy. I believe Gilligan-Sebelius in KS will appoint a Democrat to replace Lynn Jenkins as Treasurer.

Crud there's another one. I'm plain against this happening. If your current post would be filled by an appointed rat or one in the line of succession you should stay where you are. Call it the Deukmejian rule.

And one wonders how useful having a Republican is.

For sec of state it helps prevents ELECTION THEFT. See Minnesota and Ohio. Of course a RINO Sec of state in Washington State did nothing to help when the dims stole the gubernatorial election in 2004. :/

Not good given the Soros SoS project.

Yeah Soros knows the score. Helping election fraud and theft is a high priority for him. We need our own project. We're pathetic in down ballot state races. AGs and Secs of states being the most important
