Senator Franken?
The Washington Post ^ | December 19, 2008 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 12/19/2008 6:26:45 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

Entertainer Al Franken (D) now leads Sen. Norm Coleman (R) for the first time since election day in the never-ending recount process that is the Minnesota Senate race.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Franken now leads Coleman by 281 votes (as of 3:45 p.m. eastern time). So, should we start readying Washington for the arrival of Senator Franken?

Maybe but, then again, maybe not.

The fact that Franken is now in the lead is, from a purely symbolic point of view, great news for Democrats. The longer he remained behind -- and he has been behind Coleman for the better part of the last six weeks -- the more conventional wisdom began to cement behind the idea that, when all was said and done, Coleman would be the winner.

With Franken now ahead -- even if only for a brief time -- national attention will return to Minnesota and the "Did Franken pull an upset" storyline will re-form.

From a purely practical point of view, however, it's EXTREMELY difficult to tell where this race is headed.

It’s down to 249 and the counting is ended for the weekend. Now, there are a slow of Coleman challenges that could reverse the tally. So, let’s not prematurely cast away all hope. Plus Coleman has approached the Supreme Court again to challenge double counting — which is just the right thing to do.

Since the retirement of Mark Dayton, Minnesota has lost the title of “home of the dumbest senator with a penis”. If Franken manages to steal this election, they will earn back that title in spades.

More than half of those votes giving him the lead will be tossed by the MNSC because they are duplicate ballots which the Compost conveniently forget to add to their piece of propaganda

This is far from over

Look, folks. I think it is clear: We have lost our republic. The Dims will do anything to gain power. Anything. Lie, cheat, steal or kill; they will do anything. We know what we are dealing with. And we should know what has to be done to get our republic back.

If this freaktoid, moonbat a$$hat wins … Minnesota will get what it deserves. They allowed the vote to get close enough to cause this debacle. IMHO

They need to hold a runoff election, which Coleman would win easily. Nobody is ever going to be happy with the outcome of this one.

Didn’t this all begin with Democrat counties “discovering” votes after e;ection night? Amazingly, as I recall no other races in those counties seemed to be effected.

If it goes to the U.S. Senate, that is possible.

Not if he could also see what Great Britain is today (it’s quite a bit worse than the U.S.)

Now there are a slew of Coleman challenges that could reverse the counting.

You mean Franken challenges, more specifically, previously withdrawn Franken challenges. These are in effect ballots that the Franken camp has given up on, as I understand. The Coleman people fully expect just about all of these to go into the Coleman column and there are something like 400 of them.

Yep, right thing to do, but if he wins, the dimlibs will scream to high heaven that he was “selected, not elected,” just as with Bush in 2000.

This is a complete farce. How anyone can take anything connected with the Minnesota “recount” seriously is beyond me. I already don’t take the Senate seriously, so whether Franken gets “elected” won’t diminish it one bit.

Actually, this story shouldn’t upset us too much because the WaPo writer doesn’t seem to be gloating about Franken’s “lead,” and is clearly hedging regarding the final outcome.

We sit back and watch as the rats prostitute our laws, commit fraud infront of our faces and we and the republicans sit on thier hands with thier mouths closed shut. I am at a loss for words. What has happened to my country, AND WHO WILL LEAD US OUT OF THIS SWAMP

Another FReeper said it first: notice how many races, including presidential come down to a couple of hundred votes, then the “lost” ballots start being found, “hanging chads” and all sorts of fraud being pulled to the detriment of the country.

No way these races come to a handful of votes given hundreds of thousands or MILLIONS are voting, no way.

The fix is in - recount until the Frankenfraud wins. Uncle Joe said it best - It does not matter who votes, it matters who counts the votes. Lemme guess, a few more votes where found from the likes of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Oscar the Grouch, and Lucifer. This state is amazing - it’s like I’m back in bleeping Joisey.

A special election would be held to fill the vacancy IF Coleman wins and the Senate won’t seat him. I don’t know about any runoff.

Candidates from any party could particulate in the special election scenario.

Hopefully the rats would be blamed for this expensive and unnecessary election and would lose.

Excellent point!!!

Why were the other runoffs not effected by missing ballots and other stupid mistakes (intentional or un-intentional) up there???

I saw someone mention above that Minn. deserves what they get for this...But this effects the entire country...
