Margie Christoffersen didn't make it very far into our conversation before she cracked. Chest heaving, tears streaming, she reached for her husband Wayne's hand and then mine, squeezing as if she'd never let go.
"I've almost had a nervous breakdown. It's been the worst thing that's ever happened to me," she sobbed as curious patrons at a Farmers Market coffee shop looked on, wondering what calamity had visited this poor woman who's an honest 6 feet tall, with hair as blond as the sun.
Well, Christoffersen was a manager at El Coyote, the Beverly Boulevard landmark restaurant that's always had throngs of customers waiting to get inside. Many of them were gay, and Christoffersen, a devout Mormon, donated $100 in support of Proposition 8, the successful November ballot initiative that banned gay marriage.
She never advertised her politics or religion in the restaurant, but last month her donation showed up on lists of "for" and "against" donors. And El Coyote became a target.
A boycott was organized on the Internet, with activists trashing El Coyote on restaurant review sites. Then came throngs of protesters, some of them shouting "shame on you" at customers. The police arrived in riot gear one night to quell the angry mob.

The GAYSTAPO....
If homosexuals make up about 3% of the population, how can that have this big affect on businesses?
Here is a link to the restaurant:

I’m going to write it a good review just because of it.

I’m also going to call to see if I can buy some gift cards or something to local conservative friends.
The Gaystapo strikes again. This is what is in store for those who defy the new PC commissars.
Is she still the manager? I think we need a FReeper road trip to go there and have lunch.
As far as I know and she is the niece of the owner.
In places like L.A. it is more like 12%.
Here is the restaurant website.
I hope they come after me for my contribution....
They are a VERY noisy 3%, and many of them have money. Their most effective advocates aren't even gay, they are run of the mill leftists that have a common goal.... destruction of the traditions and institutions that made our country great.
The treatment of this woman is disgraceful.
Where is our version of the Closet or Commode or whatever that high powered homosexual group who bankrolls people on the foont line of the culture wars?
Who is going to bankroll this woman and the brave resturaunt that is keeping her employed.
This is fascism as it creeps in...and has been going on for a number of years. I hope that business improves and checks of support flow in from the entire country.

And apparently they clusterthink like the Borg.
As for me, I never have actively boycotted a business.
Ten people outside the door of you restaurant with signs and intimidating customers and you don't think that is going to impact your business!
Fill Balloon with water. Add a generous amount of skunk scent. Write tolerance on the balloon. Repeat. Go to the roof of the restaurant and send a message of tolerance.
Just feel the “tolerance”.
Horse pucky. This woman needs to have the courage of her convictions.
Time to find every gay-owned business out there and boycott it, and give it as much bad word-of-mouth as possible, Put the queers out of business, and they won’t have the power to act like a gaystapo anymore.
RICO.
Or simply somebody needs to go outside and kick their ass.
i second boycotting gay businesses!
Not just business but our social policies. We must support her, and kudos to the California Mormons for your courage and leadership on this.
don’t forget that besides the gay population, there is the gay sympathizer crowd and the general liberal gang, i.e PC brigade
No one said any different but it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t support our causes and those who are with us. Homosexuals are trying to force their lifestyle to be accepted and celebrated by everyone. We will stop them.
Homosexuals! The new face of anti-American terrorists.
Out of curiosity, who released the names on this list? Don't people have a right to donate to a good cause without having it publicized?
I just googled it, and find that the SF Chronical and the LA Times have posted search functions for finding donors, like this one. But where did they get this information?
http://www.sfgate.com/webdb/prop8/
Ah. I just read the fine print and found this:
(Source: Richard Dalton, a computer-assisted reporting specialist, compiled this analysis of Prop. 8 campaign contributions for the Associated Press. The analysis is based on campaign finance reports submitted to the Calif. Secretary of State's Office since 2007 and contains data current as of Nov. 4.)
So donations are reported to the Sec of State and then made public? Why?
We need to have a solid response to this kind of thing. Conservative organizations do not work together well enough.
Arrest them for disturbing the peace. Do they have a permit for an assembly of that size? There's lots of ways to deal with that kind of behavior.
I would suggest NOT supporting the business. Let them perish at the hands of the freedom haters. Those people who work there and didn’t support Prop 8 shouldn’t be saved by those that did (or would have) supported prop 8. It’s unfortunate that this lady will lose her job, but thats just the way it goes. These liberals who support this crap have to see the effects of their actions, whether its friends losing jobs or businesses that they patronized going down. They must learn, and the only way is to NOT SHIELD THEM FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS.
Aren’t all political donations considered to be public information?
Excuse me? Are you nuts? Did you read the article. The people who own this business are backing her at no small cost to themselves, no matter what their personal views are.
That is what the United States is made of.
Not the fascists who say My Way or No Way.
Like you.
Yes. Transparency.
Maybe so. I’ve only run into donations to candidates, so I hadn’t thought about that. We don’t have ballot initiatives anywhere that I’ve lived.
But it seems unfortunate if it’s going to be used to harrass people or attack their churches and the like.
ping
You know, typical Obama voters. Clueless as the day is long.

By trashing her reputation, lying about the food and staff on Internet blogs, picketing her restaurant and running people off, making threatening phone calls, etc.
“Margie Christoffersen didn’t make it very far into our conversation before she cracked. Chest heaving, tears streaming, she reached for her husband Wayne’s hand and then mine, squeezing as if she’d never let go.”
OH, that is SssssO gay.
They do when they push policies requiring indoctrination in schools. They do when they try to redefine marriage and when they trot down the streets perverted costumes. They do when they want all political focus to be on the abnormal way they choose to have sex.
It is in LA.
The donation list is public information and is likely available in machine-readable form from a Freedom of Information Act request. Then all it takes is one pro-gay activist to put it up on a website in searchable form, and a bunch of pro-gay activists to look through it for people who may be vulnerable to retaliation.
Have you ever asked yourself why?
BTTT!
Time for the woman to lawyer up and sue these bastards. RICO? Intimidation? Jeopardizing the woman’s livelihood? Religious discrimination. Freedom of association. Infringement of voting rights? There has to be case in here to hit these bastards.
A good place to start boycotting fags is Hollyweird. No movies, no TV dramas. If anyone really cares about their country they’ll bankrupt those scumbags.
Organization and mob tactics. Most compliant Americans just want to go about their business. Most responsible adults are too busy working and rearing children. The homos and the Marxists are free of time and expense consuming responsibilities and have plenty of time to riot. Violence works.
If the private sector middleclass ever organized this would be a different nation.
This is why people who donate to political causes or candidates should not be forced to have their names on a publicized list. We have secret ballots for a reason. Political donations should also be secret unless a person chooses to make his/her politics public.
Nothing wrong with boycotts ... long live free speech.
But it goes both ways. People can boycott businesses that opposed Prop 8 too. All it takes is organization.
For that matter people can boycott gay businesses if they want to.
Boycotts are the truest form of free speech. Let’s not dis boycotts ... they are a powerful form of free speech you may need another day for another cause.
How you spend your money is the way you ‘vote’ on what exists in the world.
