Could be, also the use of the word bulkhead is not usually what a layman would call it???

I will have to follow him when I get home from work. Twitter is a great place for breaking news. I found it during the Mumbai attacks. There were people on scene reporting.

The Twitter account was great. But I was wondering: if you’re injured in an event like this, can you get a discount on your rescue fee?

I logged off early last night .. just getting caught up.

latest ap doesn’t say anything about cause. 38 injured

fwiw - earlier radio news report said the plane bumped down twice on the runway during take-off, after the 2nd bump, one of the engines let go. damn lucky.

Damn, what a ride. Thanks for posting that account.

I been close a couple times on planes, a Dallas take-off and Philly approach come to mind for me. Venting fuel and taking evasive action are just a couple things pilots train for, 4-wheeling? I’m not sure on that one..

Kudos to the pilots and crew and rescue personnel!

wow, that Twitter account is pretty amazing! And kudos to the crew for getting everyone out!

I wonder if they blew a tire or something? My first thought was ice on the wings, but they said there was no snow, so makes me wonder what made them skid on the runway like that?

This reminds me of a captain I flew with once who was in a similar accident. In snow, they went off the end of the runway and wrecked (can't remember the reason why, but obviously not his fault since he was still flying). It was a late night departure and they only had about 10 people in the back, but he said by the time he got unstrapped and grabbed the flashlight and opened the cockpit door, passengers, crew, everyone was gone! He was laughing about it, saying, "Those flight attendants were like, 'Screw you! You got us into this mess, get yourselves out of the plane!'" Fortunately no one was hurt. I recall he also said the accident was nothing compared to the interrogation afterwards.

Update:

2drinksbehind Found out chairman of Continental was on our flight. That’s putting your money where your mouth is.

Did you all know FR is on Twitter?

I had a rough ride flying into Palm Springs many moons ago. I knew we were too far down the runway, I kept looking at the asphalt and we weren’t wheels down yet. Finally, he puts it down hot and heavy...and the brakes started smoking and you could still smell them when we stopped at the very end of the runway. That was Frontier just before they went bankrupt the first time.

Ping to 127

Love your story about everyone bailing on the flight crew.

A recurring nightmare for which I have no explanation...

In a damaged chopper going down fast into a flooded rice paddy...
I'm frozen in place - unable to make the decision to jump from the hatch before the crash, or staying put to avoid being cut to pieces by disintegrating rotors....

Fortunately - the nightmare is so disturbing I always wake up before the crash.....still undecided.

Any shrinks out there have an explanation?
Rode many a chopper, been fired at while aboard - but never involved in a shoot-down, crash or emergency landing.

However, I remain horrified by choppers...

Thanks for that link.

I guess he was on Fox News but I missed it.

Not a shrink, but I can explain it for you. It has more to do with your inability to make a decision and act on it than about the helicopter.

Sort of the classic "between a rock and a hard place" type of dream. Neither of your two choices is very appealing, so you choose to not do anything. Which, if you think about it, is making the choice of leaving things up to fate and not directing your own destiny.

So then I would look around and see what situation in waking life is making you feel like you are stuck, indecisive or screwed no matter which way you turn.

Your suggestion led to a lot of reflection.
In my post military professional life - I was in a position requiring significant decisions daily, so it not the inability to make decisions...

However - there is ONE decision I’ve avoided for years, one I’ve refused to make because of the fallout it would generate...

You may have something....
However - this particular nightmare predates the unmade “decision”.... But, you did start the sparks flowing in “my little grey matter”

I just found out that I knew both pilots.

Well, that info confirms what your nickname stands for! :-)

Put her on the ground on her belly - you’ve got a better chance of having some people make it out.

Run her out of fuel and put her on the ground on her belly.

No fuel, no fire, odds are good everyone will be telling the tale to their grandchildren.

That assumes that you have the chance to empty the tanks either through flying around in a circle or via fuel jettison, of course.

In the situation like this one, given the choice between a nearby river and a field, I’ll take the field. River = everyone dies (more or less).

Of course.

The possibility of burning vs the near certainty of drowning. I’ll take dirt any day. (There’s a reason they call it “land”ing!)

Worse comes to worse it easier for the NTSB to find all the little bits and pieces...

Oh, nevermind the ten-cent psychoanalysis about your dream about whether to jump from the helicopter, or just wait for it to crash...

It's not about YOU, our your indecision.
