LONG BEACH, Calif. - Rick Warren has told a Muslim group in California that 'You don't have to see eye to eye to walk hand in hand.' And at the same gathering, Warren also admitted he's a big fan of lesbian activist Melissa Ethridge and has all her albums.
Under fire for opposing gay marriage, the influential evangelical told the Muslim Public Affairs Council's annual convention Saturday that he loves Muslims, people of other religions, Republicans and Democrats, and he also loves "gays and straights."
The 54-year-old pastor and founder of Saddleback Church in Southern California told the crowd of 500 that it's unrealistic to expect everyone to agree on everything all the time.
"You don't have to see eye to eye to walk hand in hand," said Warren.
Warren also defended President-elect Barack Obama's invitation that he give the invocation at the Jan. 20 inauguration in the keynote speech he delivered at the Muslim Public Affairs Council's annual convention in Long Beach.

I'd have better results talking to a puppy about calculus.
What would Muslims know about tolerance?
LOL - I agree.
The new One World Religion...the religion of tolerance.
Debate will no longer be allowed. Christians will be stopped from preaching their beliefs...gag order on the gospel.
Look how the money rolls in.
Ok I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.
L
The more I read of this guy, the less I like. He used to be heralded by my church. Wolf in sheep’s clothing, if you ask me.
Is Rick the Bernie Madoff of religion? Just axing!
Yes, we show tolerance towards them and they return it by undermining our culture at every turn and inciting hatred towards us and our way of life.
You are my kind of guy. I'd much rather talk to the canine.
People miss what this is really all about, have to think along the line of infiltration and deception, reaching inward for ignorant dummies within the church to bring them on board into that church that Jesus says makes Him vomit. It is a subtle but deliberate strategy to infiltrate deeper into the church to cause more to defect and be part of that last church of Revelation.
Why Rick Warrens Invocation at Obamas Inauguration Matters
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies also announced that Joseph Lowery, who cofounded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Martin Luther King Jr., would deliver the benediction.
Warren and Lowery make for interesting bookends to Obama’s inauguration: a reminder of liberals’ faith-based past and a promise for what they hope can be a faith-based future.
Following the trail to a global religion or one world religion.
“Tolerance,” that GREAT Christian virtue. NOT! “In the world it is called Tolerance, but in hell it is called Despair, the sin that believes in nothing, cares for nothing, seeks to know nothing, interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, hates nothing, finds purpose in nothing, lives for nothing, and remains alive because there is nothing for which it will die.” Dorothy Sayers.
Rickie does not speak for me. I’m in ‘The Church Militant’ faction.
No kidding! They want to walk head in hand (Your head in their hand).
The very definition of futility and dhimmitude.

That's not the Rick Warren I know...

Can we all say Kumbayah?

But Bush says it’s a religion of peace! Heaven help us!
I’ve never been interested in what Rick Warren is selling.
I’m going to start taking up with Satan.
Norman Vincent Peale used to preach his “power of positive thinking” and it appears Warren is of that school. Adlai Stevenson found “Paul (the Apostle) appealing and Peale appalling”, and though I can’t get the words to match up I feel the same way about Rick Warren and others like him.
He should be preaching the good news to Muslims, not offering them any kind of false simpatico around the Christian faith, or any illusion that they are in anything other than a damnable cult which they must flee from and to Christ.
Gee and I thought we were supposed to love our enemies. Guess I had it wrong eh.
“Gee and I thought we were supposed to love our enemies. Guess I had it wrong eh.”
You did have it wrong—in a Christian sense—if you defined “love” as offering anything other than Jesus as the Way the Truth and the Life. For a Christian there is nothing and no one else to offer. Muslims (the subject at hand) are wrong and doomed unless they accept Christ. Telling them that is love.
“You did have it wrongin a Christian senseif you defined love as offering anything other than Jesus as the Way the Truth and the Life.”
Ahh so you’re from the school of thought that you can save people by pissing them off first.
“Telling them that is love.”
Gods message is love. Our mission is to bring people to Christ. Telling them is just the start.
I did not have it wrong. Christians have used the sledge hammer method for decades only to see a decline in church attendance and number of Christians.
You can inform people of Gods love and the way to salvation without shaming them or alienating them.
I still just see Muslims as the enemy. I know I need to pray for them and to witness to them, but I’m just not there yet.
>>”You don’t have to see eye to eye to walk hand in hand,” said Warren.<<
Actually, if RW cracked open a Bible now and again, he might read “Can two walk together unless they be agreed?”
And that we’re commanded to “expose the works of darkness”, not have a fellowship with them.
Saddleback Church? Shouldn’t it be named Brokeback Church?
He was suspect with me the moment I heard that 0 had chosen him for the invocation.
My mistrust of him goes back to when he was visiting Syria a couple of years back.
Hey, he hates gays right? Can’t be all bad.
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty” (II Cor. 6:14-18).
I was asked years ago by young engineers in our company years ago: “Are you saying, only Christians are going to heaven?” I answered, “It is not important what I say, I’m just saying what Jesus said, He said was the only way to the Father in heaven.” (John 14:6)
They then asked; “What about xxxx, he is a Buddist, and what about, xxxx, he is a Moslim, and xxxx, he is Jewish, and what about xxxx, he is a Hindu?”
My answer was, “Jesus Christ came into the world to die for them, He died for the Jews first, and then the Gentiles (and the Buddist, the Moslim, the Hindu) and it is our mission to share that God loves them also!
“For God sent not His Son into the world to comdemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17)
Yes, Amen! God’s word is clear how, and with whom we have fellowship and worship with!
And His word is also clear that we are salt and light in this world! (Matthew 5:13-16).
We must share the Gospel of Christ to the lost. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: fot it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)
Amen
Very appropriate verse you quoted to counter Warren. The word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword.
No, you have it right. We should love Muslims to death.

“The more I read of this guy, the less I like. He used to be heralded by my church. Wolf in sheeps clothing, if you ask me.”
Exactly. It’s the Church of Laodicea.
“People miss what this is really all about, have to think along the line of infiltration and deception, reaching inward for ignorant dummies within the church to bring them on board into that church that Jesus says makes Him vomit. It is a subtle but deliberate strategy to infiltrate deeper into the church to cause more to defect and be part of that last church of Revelation.”
BINGO!!!
And FWIW, Rick Warren’s idea of what the Christian church should be makes me want to vomit, too. It is this wishy-washy, feel-good, “tolerant” (which is nothing more than ‘shut up about what our church actually teaches because we can learn from those of other faiths’), ‘Jesus wouldn’t condemn anyone to hell because he loves us all so much,’ etc., kind of garbage that is poisoning our culture and even more detrimentally, our churches and idea of what Christianity is supposed to be.
A supposed representative of the true God pandering to Christian-hating Muslims and to leftist homosexual singers appears sophomorically stupid.
Obomba was right in choosing this 'man of convictions' to offer a prayer at his crowning.
So you disagree with God?
Nobodys saying we need to let muslims take over or kill anyone.
No.
Yes.

“Ahh so you’re from the school of thought that you can save people by pissing them off first.”
Have you never read Steven’s address to the crowd in Acts? He wasn’t very nice to them, seeing as how they wanted to kill him in their anger. And this was one of the gentlest people in the New Testament!
People may need different approaches, but they never need another gospel (i.e. letting them think they may keep their own dead religion and tack Christ onto that).
