Snow, rain and ice blankets much of US (Paging Al Gore&Gubinor aRnie, Global Warming Alert!)
AFP on Yahoo ^ | 12/22/08 | AFP

Posted on 12/22/2008 10:04:11 AM PST by NormsRevenge

WASHINGTON (AFP) – A massive winter storm blanketed the US West Coast with snow, sleet and ice early Monday while blizzards and snow squalls struck the Northeast and Midwest, killing at least four people and making travel dangerous.

The storm snarled holiday air traffic across the country, with delays at major airports in San Francisco; Houston, Texas; Boston, Massachusetts; New Jersey and New York, officials said.

The fierce weather was blamed for the death of two people in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate Highway 80 east of Des Moines, Iowa.

Another weather-related fatality was reported in northwest Iowa when a farm tractor being used for snow removal slipped off the driveway and overturned, killing the driver, the Des Moines Register newspaper reported.

Drivers blinded by blizzard conditions created a 30-vehicle pile-up on Interstate 94 in western Michigan Sunday. Dozens of the vehicles were also involved in a series of other wrecks nearby, including one that killed a 31-year-old Illinois man, CNN television reported.

Travel was also treacherous in the northwestern states of Oregon and Washington, with heavy rain, sleet and snow expected until 10:00 am (1800 GMT) Monday, the National Weather Service said in its winter storm warning for the region.

"This is probably one of the worst storms since 1990," weather service meteorologist Dana Felton told AFP by phone from Seattle, adding that the last big storm on this scale was on Christmas day 1996.

"This is definitely a once-in-a-decade type of storm."

Doesn’t matter. When you’re a global warming cultist, it only proves global warming is occurring. Doesn’t make sense?
That’s because rational, clear thinking people know that GW is a crock. GW cultists go with their feeeeeellllllllllings.

No, no, you have it wrong my friend! I just had one of the zealots explain to me that the melting of the ice cap in the arctic is effectively pushing the cold air south. He also told me that global warming will only affect the equatorial regions and that in fact, it will cause the northern and southern hemispheres to in fact cool first. So there you have it, this is quite normal.

It was below zero this morning and our Furnace went out during the night. Woke up at 4:15 and it was 64o and DROPPING. Got it fixed a while ago and its STILL 59o right where I'm sitting.

I post on Eastern Weather US a great site for weather nerds like me. You'd never know reading there that we had Winter start like it has. Eastern WX has been inundated with Obomatons mainly posting from places like Fair Lawn, New Jersey and Boston MA bitching about their 3” snowcover and how global warming has ruined their Winters. I bring this up because when you are intellectually dishonest and want bad news to be true in the face of evidence no amount of quantitative and anecdotal evidence will convince them. It's a religion and false religions die hard.

Here in NYC 5 inches is considered a major storm by our nitwit mayor and his brain-dead bootlickers including the local TV media who tried to frighten everyone to death because the wind-chill might be 5 below. What really was bad this time was that the ground snow turned into ice overnight. I just spent an hour and a half hacking my car out of the hardest ice I have ever encountered.

Don’t know how he managed with a straight face, but I was told by a colleague today that all this unusually cold weather is the “rebound effect” of global warming. That he said it with such absolute conviction, as if fully supported by all the great scientific minds of the age, I simply stood there staring at him; quietly breathing through my mouth for several seconds before turning, and walking away without a word. No sense wasting precious oxygen.

Here in the Portland area we’ve had three days of non stop snow and ice. The gnomes in the back yard are completely covered. In the 10 years that I’ve been here I’ve never seen anything like it. The midwest, yes, but not here. I think there might be a foot of snow out there.

I'm old enough to remember the 70s scare about the coming ice age, which was being hastened IIRC by the use of aerosol sprays (because of the propellant used). Yes -- use hairspray or air freshener and you're bringing on the ice age! Aerosols disappeared for a while (replaced by mechanical pump type things), and then aerosols came back, I guess with a different propellant.

But hairspray and air freshener are really small potatoes compared with with the havoc you can wreak attacking the internal combustion engine and whole utilities!

I've got a whole bunch of those "customized shelters" in a box underneath my kitchen sink. They usually come a couple dozen or so to a box. "Hefty" is a popular brand.

■ Warming will occur most over land at high northern latitudes and least over the Southern Ocean and the North Atlantic.

Ho Ho HO...Merry Christmas....and STOP calling me that!

Yeah...here in NE IL we’ve got 10 inches of snow on the ground, Sat and Sun the temp was -5DegF with -35DegF wind chill factors. Tonight and into Tues and Wed, we’re expecting two more waves of snow/sleet wintry mix...

I’m on my second 2gallons of petrol to power the globull warming thrower and clear the drifts from the driveway and sidewalks again.

I love it! This is the MOST snow we’ve had in like 20 years or more.

Why, back in the day when I was a kid, we had over 120 inches of snow every winter...then in ‘83, that darn Mount Pinatubo in Phlippalines had to go blow up and Mounted Saint Helen too!

Merry Merry Merry Merry Christmas!
Merry Merry Merry Merry Christmas!

Here in West Texas, it is warm and dry (today is cold, but tomorrow it will get warm again). I miss my Kansas snow a bit, but much of the snow has hit the northern part of the country. Aside from some freak snow in New Orleans and Houston last week, really the snow has been hitting the very northern tier of the country without much impact farther south.

Texas is great, but I do miss my snow and severe weather up north. Of course, I am in Midland, TX, about the worst part of the state. The people are nice, but the landscape makes Kansas look beautiful (to me it already was of course), but the Midland/Odessa area is so dry with no weather whatsoever to speak of....so utterly boring.

Dallas gets more rain though. I think that might be a good place to be to at least get a little snow in the winter while still being pretty warm mostly. :)

Austin is beautiful, btw. Love it.

Imagine where we would be if these were quotes that Algore said and believed along with his followers who ignore true facts and science:

"The earth is flat"
"If you sail out past the horizon, you will fall off the edge of the earth."
"The sky is falling run folks run. The sky is falling, and the sun."
"The moon is made of blue cheese."

To the global warming dingbats, all would have seemed sane and they would have defended it as long as Algore told them it was true, all even in the face of proof it was wrong. These people thrive on making stupid hysteria popular and frightening others.

Does anyone know or remember how and when precisely this global warming nonsense began? Who was the first nut?

The global cooling alarmism of the 70's led to the creation and massive funding of climate science. When the global cooling thing didn't pan out, these scientists were left with two options: 1-vouluntarily put themselves out of work by saying "nothing to worry about folks" or 2-keep themselves employed and expand their field of science by creating a new global warming hysteria.

No government financed scientist has ever voluntarily put himself out of work by admitting they are unneeded. They all create panic and postion themselves as saviors.

In grammar school in 1955 we were told that CO2 was a greenhouse gas and that eventually earth would be like Venus with the oceans dried up. We were also informed there was 20 years of oil left and since we were planning to have cars in a couple more years we were sent into immediate, permanent, and Great Depression.
