Don’t say such things. Madoff may be a swindler, but he’s still a human being, and to wish for the death of a human being damages your soul.

Instead, let’s pray that he lives to get what’s coming to him in a court of law.

While I feel sorry about this I'll bet there are many more elderly who are on the edge seeing their security give way to possible homelessness. Their deathe will probably not register the same decibels as are present on the Cable News outlets about this one man.

I still don’t get it!

$50billion was not burned or buried - it was circulated. Probably only a few billion actually ever existed as currency - most of the $50billion was probably just paper transactions in ephemeral assets.

Stupid stupid stupid!!!

Well from the guys name I am guessing he was a French National. Rene-Thierry Magon de La Villehuchet sounds about as French as you could get. Draw your own conclusions, but a tip of the hat to the Tricolour from me.

True, but that $50B figure is awfully large, and tends to cross over into an entirely different category of crime.

For instance, Joe Sixpack, working for 40 years [age of 25 to age of 65], at $30,000 per year, earns only $1,200,000 over the course of his lifetime, so Madoff stole the equivalent of more than 40,000 "Joe Sixpack" lifetimes' worth of work.

It's kinda like how these acts of Muslim terrorism cross the threshold from investigatable & prosecutable crimes, and become truly acts of war - acts which can't be dealt with using all the niceties of habeas corpus and the right against self-incrimination and the right to counsel and whatnot.

PS: And yes, I realize that Uncle Sam is running the same sort of Ponzi Scheme with Social Security, but I freely admit that what Uncle Sam is doing is tantamount to a form of "demicide", or "policide", or whatever.

Get what is coming to him in court? What is that? Some time in prison before he kills over from old age? After costing the government millions trying him? I hope he jumps off the roof of the building he is staying in right now.

Hedge funds are gambles. Some win, but many lose.

How come Soros always wins? Does he have some foreign government provided secret inside knowledge.

Betting is easy if you always know the winner in advance.

Bin Laden, et al are enemy combatants in a war. They would kill us all if they could; therefore, there’s nothing immoral about wanting to kill them. Madoff, as evil as his actions were, is not a combatant; he is a criminal, and should face his accusers in a court of law.

I have no sympathy for Madoff. I doubt I’d cry if he were to be dragged from his home and stomped to death in the street by an angry mob. However, I do not care to live in a society where lynch mobs administer justice in the streets.

The law says Madoff is entitled to due process, and it’s in the best interest of all of us to see that he gets it.

Re: Madoff, as evil as his actions were, is not a combatant

Tell that to the people who lost their life savings, and may have a shortened life because of this guy, no different than the people whose lives were shortened on 9/11.

The method is different, but the end result is the same.

Make no mistake about that.

Soul damage is no joke. Every little bit of it twists your soul away from the Image of God. Accumulate enough and you become evil yourelf.

I learned this the hard way.

So hoping for a mass murdering psychotic (ie bin laden) to die is going to damage my soul?

I used to believe that. Now, I simply believe the world would be a better place.

Naivete will not help the cause of good and just men.

Look at this way, Madoff convinced people that money existed, which didn't.

And these people made decisions assuming this money existed and assuming they had access to it.

And other people gave these people things and services assuming these people had the money they thought they had.

Again: hoping for (and working toward) the death of an enemy in war (e.g. Osama) is just and honorable. But hoping for a person to kill himself is wrong.

As Christians, we are pro-life. We believe that all human life is sacred. Therefore, we must oppose the premature death of human beings except when they are aggressors and no other means of protecting ourselves or others from them exists.

In the case of Madoff, a way of protecting ourselves from him exists. It is called a court of law. Unless and until we no longer have recourse to the judicial process, we Christians should seek Madoff’s conviction and (lifetime) imprisonment.

Re: Therefore, we must oppose the premature death of human beings except when they are aggressors

If Madoff’s behavior does not count as being that of an aggressor, what does?

re: stole the equivalent of more than 40,000 “Joe Sixpack” lifetimes’ worth of work

That's exactly how I feel when I see that a million dollars of taxpayers’ funds were spent on some worthless earmark program somewhere. I think that it's all the taxes I will ever pay, along with probably a hundred other hard working Americans just like me.

at the end of that essay you linked:

“The Arab world expresses their Jew-hatred in cartoons. The western media expresses it in the biased way in which they cover events, including the Madoff Matter. Mainstream newspapers, including the New York Times, describe Madoff as Jewish, over and over again, in article after article, and they also describe his various “feeders” as Jewish too. Funny, they never mention the religion of any of his “feeders” and co-conspirators who are not Jewish.

Thus, in article after article, we are told that “feeder” Ezra Merkin is also Jewish–but we are never told the religious affiliations of Madoff’s Fairfield “feeders,” Walter M. Noel, Andre Piedrahita, Yanko Della Schiava, Phillip J. Toub, Jeffrey Tucker, Matthew Brown, or the religious affiliations of additional Madoff victims, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Banco Santander, A.G. Edwards and Sons, Korea Life Insurance, Cathay Life, Samsung Investment and Securities, Bank Medici, (headed by Peter Scheithauer), etc...”
