The left are huge control freaks, masquerading under the guise of libertinism.
They want to control what you consume - energy, food, goods & services, etc.

They do want people to do the wrong things in their personal lives, but that’s just a means to an end. They want our society destroyed so that the people will welcome their control. In order to have more people doing more destructive things, they subsidize and alleviate the natural consequences of those choices, and in the process, punish those successful people who make responsible choices.
