Us Army ready if the downturn gets out of hand
NY Post ^ | 23 Dec 2008 | John Crudele

ARE you afraid that the eco nomic downturn could get out of hand? I mean, really out of hand?

Well, don't worry.

The US Army War College is on the case - ready to handle "unforeseen economic collapse" and the "rapid dissolution of public order in all or significant parts of the US."

And you thought we were just dealing with a recession!

In a report published Nov. 4 - just in time for the holiday season - the War College's Strategic Studies Institute posited a number of shocks that the country should be prepared for, including unrest caused by the economy's failure.

The report has a snappy title, "Known Unknowns: Unconventional 'Strategic Shocks' in Defense Strategy Development," and was written by Nathan Freier, a visiting professor at the college. The foreword was written by Col. John A. Kardos, director of the Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute.

Freier lists a number of possible things we should worry about - because we probably don't have enough of our own - including run-of-the-mill terrorism and the fact that China and Russia could align against us politically and economically.

"Some of the most plausible defense-relevant strategic shocks remain low-probability events," Freier soft-pedals before going on to scare the hell out of us.

The War College says "widespread civil violence inside the US would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security."

Among things Freier wants us to worry about are "deliberate employment of weapons of mass destruction. . . unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency and catastrophic natural and human disasters."

Oh, and by the way, have a Merry Christmas!

One of the reasons Obama wants his civilian defense force. Easier to control than the military.

The big question is whether the military would engage Americans. Back when the big hoopla was about the question of firing on Americans during weapons confiscation, I spoke with a number of Army and Marine officer and senior enlisted who said they would not obey such an order. I doube things have changed much since then.

He will assume power 12:01 hours January 20, 2009. The Supreme Court is not about to rule against him.

The military will do what he tells them to do.

As I recall, I had to raise my right hand and swear to "defend and protect the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic." This country is (or at least was) unique in that the military swears an oath of allegiance to a set of rules, rather than an individual.

Of course, we also had Kent State, but that was a mistake, not a policy.

RE: "The last thing I want to do is put myself across the fireline from our troops but I will do anything necessary to protect me & mine."

MOUT (Military Operations on Urban Terrain) domestic training exercises and frangible ammo to keep down bystander casualties have been talked about and reported on for years.

I don't fear our military I worry about the "it all counts toward 30" government employees who will obediently do Wacos coast-to-coast and border-to-border. Kind of like IMO the FBI hostage rescue team at the original Waco.

Would the troops and officers fire on American citizens in an attempt to confiscate our legally owned weapons?

They DID after Katrina. There were National Guard doing that.

We had an ice storm last year, knocking out power. After 4 days, I tried to buy a generator. A new shipment came in, and I went to Home Depot to find chaos. There were six police officers surrounding the generators and breaking up fights. All social order had disolved after four days without electricity.

Remember Katrina? Thousands of people were completely helpless, unable to spend a few days away from the government teet without chaos. The entitlement class is growing every day....

I can absolutely see a breakdown of social order, if our food supply is interupted in any way, or if a utility company went banrupt (The Messiah’s words, not mine), if world events interupted American Idol, etc.

Solution - don’t own property where the entitlement classes can get to it easily (on foot). Own enough land to grow food/raise animals. Own a gun or two.

Why would Mexico hire a street gang made up of Salvadoreans?

BTW, I found a generator in a town 60 miles away (nobody had lost power in that area). All I had to do was make a phone call and pick it up....

Everybody was DEPENDING on Home Depot to ship more generators in...instead of taking charge of their own destiny and finding their own generator (lots of government jobs here, so its a mindset).

Along with the kids who entered the military for college educations and the like, there are a pretty fair number of patriots. The fact that the overwhelming majority are republican voters lessens the possibility of their firing on American citizens. Should a second American revolution ever get started, much of the military might well join the side of the patriots. No wonder Hussein wants to assemble his “civilian defense corps.” It will consist of the bow tie wearing Farrakhan thug types, necessary for the continued existence of dictatorships.

Dont forget Hussain is supposed to be the “New Lincoln.” Ol’ Abe never did let the Constitution bother. Unlike the Terriorists at Gitmo, those firebrands in South Carolina, were in rebellion and not entitled to any rights. Maybe the Military won’t fire on citizens, bur Obama’s brownshirts sure will.

No wonder Hussein wants to assemble his “civilian defense corps.”

Lenin eliminated the former Imperial Army, whose remnants were defeated in the Russian Civil War, and established his own Red Army. Hitler was unable to abolish the old line Prussian military establishment, which supported him initially against the Communists and Socialists. However, he developed a parallel army, the SS or Blackshirts, personally loyal to him, as a counterbalance. Castro converted his guerrillas into the new Cuban Army, and abolished the former military that had served under Batista. Obama's proposal for a civilian defense corps may well be a way to bypass any long term reliance on the existing U.S. Armed Forces, many of whose members, especially in the combat units, are politically conservative.

If we can’t afford to keep buying off the underclass at some point, they may have to use military force to protect the Kennedy compound. Even the Democrats may come to understand that cultivating and expanding a voting base of worthless cretins has its downside. ;)

>Only if he is in fact a natural born us citizen. Otherwise he is not the cic.<

What is that supposed to mean? The way it looks is that Obama will be crowned in January whether he can prove to be a natural born citizen or not. That would make him CIC whether you or I like it. And don’t expect any support from Congress or the SCOTUS. It seems that Americans have been abandoned by their government.

“They DID after Katrina. There were National Guard doing that.”

That is an outright lie. No NG troops confiscated legally owned weapons. The local police agencies and roaming bands of vigilante police groups were confiscating those weapons. This has been well documented by the NRA.

I will support him if he’s legit. This is America and I want her to be the world leader forever.
I’ll raise a stink when I feel he is out of bounds also.
