Germans Save Egyptian Ship From Somali Pirates

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — A German military helicopter chased away pirates on Thursday who were trying to board an Egyptian ship off the coast of Somalia. One of the ship's crew was shot in the attack.
The bulk carrier with 31 crew was passing through the Gulf of Aden on its way to Asia when gun-toting pirates in a speedboat began pursuing it, said Noel Choong of the International Maritime Bureau's piracy reporting center.
A passing ship alerted the Kuala Lumpur-based bureau, which asked a multinational naval coalition force in the area to help, said Choong.

I’m with you- how do people on a tiny speedboat board a huge ship?
Don’t they have any weapons????
If not, then just drop a large rock on them... what am I missing here?

from what I’ve heard it is illegal for merchant ships to be armed. Illegal where though? Which country's laws would they be breaking?
Gun free zones don't work. But at least they don't have to be beer bottle free.

If not, then just drop a large rock on them... what am I missing here?I think I would opt for a hefty net with heavy lead weights around the perimeter.....just drop the net over the speedboat and let gravity take control.

The very simple question remains: why aren't pirates simply blown out of the water?
Political correctness has evolved to the point that 10 evil humans are the exact equivalent of 10 normal ones.
What's wrong with this picture?
I suspect that after a few dozen or so pirate boats fail to return from out at sea, the incidence of piracy in the area will plummet.
