The arrest of the Maryland legislature before they could vote on secession - the vote was held on April 29th and secession was defeated 53 to 13. The claim he ordered the arrest of Chief Justice Taney. The 'oppressive tariff' stuff being the reason for the rebellion. That'll do for a start.

Britain didn’t think so. It understandably took a wait-and-see attitude, to see which side was going to win. It did not want to piss off either side. Funny, Britain continued trade with the Confederacy even after its shipping was interdicted by Yankee naval elements. One would think that Britain would refrain from trade with the Confederacy if it thought it didn’t exist.

That story has been around for years and has been discredited time and again. My objection to your tale is not because it's against Lincoln but to the total lack of evidence to support the claim. There is a single source, not from the person who supposedly makes the claim. There is nothing to support it - no documentation, no witnesses, no arrest, nothing. But you swallow it hook, line, and sinker.

Marshal Laman commented on it, and he was the one to whom Lincoln gave the warrant to affect the arrest. But, you routinely and steadfastly reject as out-of-hand any facts that make your messiah not look so good. I feel sorry for you and the sad life you must live.

I don't reject any facts. I routinely and steadfastly reject Southron myth, which this falls into. The only evidence supporting your claim is a paragraph in Ward Lamon's biography. The problem with that is that Lamon's biography was ghost written by Chauncey Black so there is no way of knowing who related the story. Lamon is not a credible witness in matters where he was involved - his account of his actions relating to Sumter have been described by contemporary historians as to be so wildly exaggerated as to be worthless. There is nothing else that substantiates the story - no paper trail, none of the other people who were supposed to have been involved have left any accounts, none of Taney's biographies have ever included it, and there are no other reported instances where Lamon was given an order and flat refused to do it. The whole matter is a fraud. As anyone who has investigated it would know.
