CBS newsman's $70m lawsuit likely to deal Bush legacy a new blow (Dan Rather strikes back!)
Guardian UK ^ | Sunday 28 December 2008 | Christopher Goodwin

Posted on 12/27/2008 9:06:59 PM PST by pillut48

"After an outcry from the White House and conservative bloggers who claimed that the report had been based on falsified documents, CBS retracted the story, saying that the documents' authenticity could not be verified. Rather, who had been with CBS for decades and was one of the most familiar faces in American journalism, was fired by the network the day after the 2004 election."

The article tries to show Rather as the victim of CBS and President Bush, and that "...The charges outlined in Rather's lawsuit will cast a further shadow over the Bush legacy."

Just a wild guess here, but I'm thinking President Bush is not going to be losing sleep over this one! :-)

What hubris..Dan Rather and his lawsuit will cast a shadow?

Let me see, AIG bailout, Auto Bailout, TARP...I think these are the events that really matter when it comes to “casting a shadow.”

Not some agenda driven media hack name Dan Rather.

I think Bush did a credible job as CinC and Supreme Court justices, although the latter was so only grudging on his part. Otherwise, I don't think his legacy is much to write home about.

THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE DAN AWAY
Tune: "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-haaa!"

Remember when I broke the news
How Bush got in the Guard
And didn't have to leave
To go to Vietnam?
Well . . .

I pushed that story hard
Just weeks before Election Day
And so of course you know
The thoughts I had in my mind
Like . . .

They're going to give me a prize, Ha-ha!
They're going to give me a prize, Ho-ho, Hee-hee, Ha-ha!
For a journalist
Who helps the Democrats all the time
And I'll be happy to put
That nice award
In my trophy case
And they're going to give me a prize, Ha-haaa!

You thought it was a fake
And so you cringed
You cringed when people said
That superscript was not done at that time
Right . . .

The people laughed, I heard them laugh
They laughed, they laughed and laughed
You made me leave
But now you know I'm Rather upset!
So . . .

I'm going to take you to court, Ha-ha!
I'm going to take you to court, Ho-ho, Hee-hee, Ha-ha!
For a tidy sum
Like six--no, seventy million bucks
And put me back on the Evening News
And make all the viewers watch
And I'm going to take you to court, Ha-haaa!

I read your news
I gave my views
And this is how you pay me back
For all my years of bold unbiased news?!
Hah . . .

Well, you just wait
I'll find the proof
And when I do
They'll know that Dan is not some sort of old unbalanced nut!
'Cause . . .

They're coming to take me away, Ha-ha!
They're coming to take me away, Ho-ho, Hee-hee, Ha-ha!
To the Kinko's store
Where fake but accurate faxes fly
And I'll be happy to see
Those daring scoops
Come across my desk
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

To the anchor desk
With lights and cameras and breaking news
And four producers who sit and smile
And tell me that I'm the best
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

To the Kinko's store
Where fake but accurate faxes fly
And I'll be happy to see
Those daring scoops
Come across my desk
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

Those were important, but IMO President Bush will be remembered for holding this country together after 9/11.

It isn't the truthfulness of the shadow that matters, but the seriousness of the penumbra it casts.

Lololololol......maybe in some bizarre sex-fantasy of the author.

Rather contends not only that his report was true - "What the documents stated has never been denied, by the president or anyone around him," he says - but that CBS succumbed to political pressure from conservatives to get the report discredited and to have him fired.

Dan-the-Forger's suit is pure publicity stunt pot-banging, and a transparent attempt to reclaim some lost cred and to obscure his shameful forgery pedaling.

I see no sufficient grounds for a lawsuit; however, might not CBS have grounds for a so-called "SLAPP suite" here?

That was good. I think that was his job and part of the first of my credits. I think he will also be remembered for accelerating this nation down the road to bankruptcy.

Fake but accurate says Dan Rather again. He needs to find Lucy to testify at his trial.

He’ll be sure to get it filed before an Obama or Clinton appointee and then the facts will mean nothing.
