Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Lions became the first team in NFL history to go 0-16 as Aaron Rogers threw three touchdowns and the Green Bay Packers put down the Lions, 31-21, to end Detroit's season of futility.
The Lions (0-16) became the first team since the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who went 0-14 in their expansion season, and the first team since the league went to a 16-game format to finish a full campaign without a win.
The Lions now join the 1962 New York Mets (40-112), the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers (9-73) and the 1974-75 Washington Capitals (8-67-5) as having the worst season in their respective sports. However, the Mets and Capitals were both expansion teams when they set the mark.

Hey you super star college players: Get ready for Detroit! lol
interesting.
So Detroit gets first pick in the NFL draft. Who’d want to play for them?
If the XFL was still around and I was drafted by the Lions, I would bolt over the XFL..
Better give them a federal handout.
Always nice to perform a perfect season...(great record to hold). Have to look to the good side - first draft choice - might help them into second to last place...
Guess that’s probably it for their playoff hopes.
Just unbelievable. 2008 will go down as the year where nearly everything I love in the world is a losing situation!
Dallas is on that page today......
Down here in Tennessee we have the Titans which though not having the best year are still having a good year and may win their division title on top of the supperbowl, (well lets not talk about todays game though,) and Nissan without a corrupt UAW or clueless management are doing a lot better then the big three though I have to admit they are also selling less cars too but not in the same sinking boat as the big three.
hmmm, it makes one wonder if morality and being proud of your city or region has something to do with it.
Yep, Jerry’s kids are showing us what they’re made of.....
It wasn't pretty, but it was a win none-the-less!!! YEAH VIKES!!!

In the offseason, he will meditate and contemplate. He will ask himself, "What can I do to screw this team up even more?"
And then, he will do it.
He is a pathological loser.
The Lions make the Bengals, Browns, and Raiders look like well run teams.
I would pull an Elway if drafted by the Lions with the #1 pick. In all seriousness, the Lions should trade back several times and aquire multiple high picks. It is going to take more than one super college player to fix this team.
Go Ravens. It looks like we are going to the playoffs.
Worst owner in history = William Clay Ford
They also join the 2008, 2006, and 2010 and 12 RINOS.
For today at least, I am a great Eagles fan!
I nominate Peter Angelos of the Orioles....
Iraqi Hockey Player
The Detroit Red Wings foreign scout flies to Baghdad to watch
a young Iraqi play hockey in the new American sponsored league,
and is suitably impressed and arranges for him
to come over to the US. Ken Holland
signs him to a one year contract and
the kid joins the team for the preseason.
Two weeks later the Wings are down 4-0 to the Blackhawks
with only 10 minutes left. Mike Babcock gives the young Iraqi
the nod and he goes in.
The kid is a sensation - scores 5 goals in 10 minutes
and wins the game for the Wings! The fans are delighted,
the players and coaches are delighted,
and the media love the new star.
When the player comes off the ice he phones his mom:
“Hello mom, guess what?”
“I played for 10 minutes today, we were 4-0 down,
but I scored 5 goals and we won. Everybody
loves me, the fans, the media, they all love me.”
“Wonderful,” says his mom, “Let me tell you about my day.
Your father got shot in the street and robbed, your sister
and I were ambushed, raped and beaten, and your
brother has joined a gang of looters, and all
while you were having such great time!”
The young Iraqi is very upset.
“What can I say mom? I’m so sorry.”
“Sorry? You’re Sorry?!!” says his mom,
“It’s your fault we moved to
DETROIT in the first place!”
27 - 7 Ravens with four minutes to go. It looks good for the Nevermores....
The ‘Boys just kicked a field goal to close to 44 - 6!
It must really suck to live in Michigan these days...
They may have finished 0-16 but they put up a better struggles in a meaningless game than the “Boys did today in a game they needed to win to go to the playoffs.
Fire Phillips, fire Romo, fire TO, fire Pacman and last but not least, fire that Ba$tard Jerry Jones!
almost as much fun as 44-0 w/ daBears
The Ravens are in and will play the Dolphins next week. I like that match-up for the Ravens....
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
And Vikes will be as usual one and done in the playoffs....
Leni
They could only hope to have the turnaround that a team similar to them - last year/this year's Miami Dolphins - had...one win last year, playoffs this year.
5.56mm
Yep...Actually, I would expect them to come out strong because of this season... Maybe I am always hopeful, but what the hey...getting good prospects can’t hurt! Go get em Lions! You dogs you...
“So Detroit gets first pick in the NFL draft. Whod want to play for them?”
Whoever they pick will want a gigantic four-year contract. Somewhere in the tens of millions per year. He’ll play half-hearted and conservative for those four years in order to keep himself healthy, then bail out for a more promising team to get his playoff games and possible Superbowl. Nobody will want to play for this “football team” with it’s dismal history without a huge, but very short, contract.
Besides, the Lions will probably pick a center.
The good news is that nobody will ever beat that record.
Too bad they didn’t have the Cincinnati Bengals on their regular schedule! They beat Cincinnati in pre season!
Heh...yes, that will be the record regardless...(ties are welcome though)... Go Lions!
The Ravens were the only team the Dolphins beat in the previous season. I think Miami will be effective running the ball on the Ravens, so I will take Miami.
The Bengals won three in a row to finish the season. They would have destroyed the Lions.
If you read the sports pages, watch sports programs, and analyze what is being said and how it is being said, you have to conclude that the sports writers, commentators, as well as fans, believe (without articulating it) that it is possible for every team in the league to have a winning season. Well, duh!
The Ravens have already beat Miami in Miami THIS year and only the Giants have run the ball on the Ravens this year.
If Miami’s gameplan is to run the ball they will lose. The Ravens stuggle with short slants and hooks to the sidelines against their relatively weak corners. Pennington is accurate but does not have a strong downfield arm. Dink and dunk the ball down the field will be how Miami scores, if they score. Of the Ravens last 6 opponents only Dallas (in a loss) has scored more than 13 points.
Oh REEEEEaaally.... Don’t count us out, we’re playing the Eagles....in Minnesota....they will be sweeeet to beat!
While I am sad for the Lions, I am completely giddy the Cowboys and the Patriots will miss the playoffs! Go Indy!!!
It's because of that big "G" on the back of your otherwise wonderfully enhanced truck.
You're a
...that explains EVERYthing ;-)
How many Superbowl trophys in that Vikings case?
Yup, thought so......
