The awkward co-dependence of blacks and liberal Democrats

So what exactly is the common political ground that Kennedy bluebloods share with the 90 percent of America's blacks who vote for Democrats?

A careful look shows the deep internal contradictions of the Democratic Party and the complexity of the political psyche of black Americans.

Ironically, despite Democratic Party rhetoric about economic inequities and wealth and income gaps in America, those gaps are more pronounced inside the Democratic tent than inside the Republican one.

According to exit polls from November's election, Barack Obama captured the vote of America' richest and America's poorest. Fifty-two percent of those with incomes over $200,000 voted for Obama and more than 60 percent of those earning under $30,000 did.

Our wealthiest senator, John Kerry, is a Democrat, as is our wealthiest House member, Jane Harman.

The nation's two wealthiest men, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are both, by all indication, Democrats.

What political aspirations can black Americans, whose median income lags the nation's share with these multimillionaires and billionaires?

Why do rich white liberals and poor blacks both vote Democrat? It’s called “the custodial state”.

Not at its root.

The reason that blacks vote Democrat is simple: The liberals have convinced them, through careful manipulation over the course of DECADES, that Republicans hate black people. It reall is that simple.

I've posted this story before and I'll do so again. About ten years ago, I had a conversation with a young, female, black coworker. I took her through the Republican platform step by step, and she agreed with every single position. Then, I told her that she'd just agreed with every single position that the Republican party held, and asked her if that was enough to convince her to vote R instead of D. Her answer shocked me: "No... I won't vote for Republicans because they hate black people."

We will continue to get less than ten percent of the African-American vote as long as we continue letting the Dems run the conversation in that community.

You’re absolutely, 100% correct; (I would add that Blacks are taught in school, at the family dinner table, at church and in their media that Whites hate Blacks but that’s a topic for another day). I have to wonder if a lot of “Republicans” aren’t missing a point here. It’s precisely this belief held by Blacks and increasingly, Hispanics, that has doomed the “Republican” brand. In a post-Anglo majority U.S., a political party that is seen hating anything “not-white” can’t possibly survive.

Hi, first post here. As a Black/White person and a solid young conservative, I am going to be brutally honest on why the Republican party has a problem with minoirties: I have lurked here for several years and have watched the highs and lows of the Bush administration since getting into politics post 9/11 (I was 13 at the time). While I support your stance against illegal immigration and the looney-bin multiculturalism found in Europe, in all honesty, there is a sizeable (but by no means majority) element on this site and in the conservative realm in general who do in fact harbor negitive to hateful feelings against people of color. Any time there is a thread involving crime/social decay, out of 100 replies, about 10-20 will be about how it was commited by an "illegal" or "Black youth" and how the "darkening of America" is "Threatening our way of life". Just recently, a Italian trashbag shot at a family in a movie theature here in Philly. That only garnered a few replys. But create a thread with a Black person commiting the crime, and it's like Yankees ticker tape parade in terms of having the "Suburbanites" sound off on their views befitting of 1930's Germany. Is conservatism as a whole "racist"? Absolutley not even close. However, is there a racist element here on FR and in general? Yes. And you better bet your ass the Liberals and race-hustlers comb this site and the blogs for any fodder they can find to paint us all as yahoos and nazis. Stop pandering to the reactionaires/ignorants who mascararde as "conservatives" and get back to revolution-era American values sans slavery of course ;)
