No, it wasn't. But, if the IDF is going to sink a ship with Americans on it, they'd best get it right this time.
And, by the way, when that happened, back when I was in my early school years, where were the patriots who screamed about the attack? Why was it swept under the rug? Those in power, and many in US military command, dropped the ball. It seems there is no difference between the USS Liberty and the USS Cole. If you're older than 60-65, your generation is culpable. Not mine.

The Liberty was a big mistake, and idiot anti-Semites have been exploiting it for far to long. It’s equivenlent to the Chinese holding a grudge for the bombing in Belgrade. The anti-Israelis never quit.
Why do you think it was swept under the rug? LBJ didn’t want to upset the Israeli Lobby. It was cold blooded murder and the Israelis got away with it. (The fighter planes on their way to the rescue were called back to their carrier, btw.)
I’m as pro Israel as anyone, but the people responsible for this should have been brought to justice. There’s no excuse for it not to have happened.

It is not naivete' to believe the truth and justice are lofty goals we must strive for constantly as we live our lives. It is too convenient to claim the attack was an "accident". Just say you're sorry, pay a few bucks to the widows and orphans from the foreign aid those brave men paid taxes to create. Nope. Someone(s) did us all wrong and what has been rent asunder must be put right. To fail to do so is to fail to live up to who and what we as a nation, a civilization and a culture are.
