A group of Republican leaders including the vice-chair of the Republican National Committee say they will try in January to pass a resolution accusing President George Bush and congressional Republican leaders of embracing "socialist" policies. Pretty blunt.

Hallelujah!
Well, I HOPE so, anyway.
Excerpt:
In what would amount to a slap in the face to a sitting Republican president and the party’s Senate and House leaders, national GOP officials, including the vice chairman of the Republican National Committee, are sponsoring a resolution opposing the resort to “socialist” means to save capitalism.
“We can’t be a party of small government, free markets and low taxes while supporting bailouts and nationalizing industries, which lead to big government, socialism and high taxes at the expense of individual liberty and freedoms,” said Solomon Yue, a cosponsor of a resolution that would put the RNC — the party’s national governing body — on the record as opposing the U.S. government bailouts of the financial and auto industries.
Republican National Vice Chairman and constitutional law attorney James Bopp Jr. authored the resolution and is asking the rest of the 168 voting members of the committee to sign it.
“The resolution also opposes President-elect Obama’s proposed public works program and supports conservative alternatives,” while encouraging the RNC “to engage in vigorous public policy debates consistent with our party platform,” Mr. Bopp said.
[...]
“Jim Bopp is the author of the no-bailout resolution because he wants to articulate our core principles now, not every four years when we have a presidential election,” said Mr. Yue, an Oregon member of the Committee. “This is based on the thinking that articulating political philosophy is equally important as applying it consistently.”
“Failing to do so, we have today’s identity crisis, which resulted in our losses in 2006 and 2008,” Mr. Yue said. “The bailout is a good example ... In my view, if we are not going to address this, we will see more losses in 2010.”
Can’t believe I’m reading this.
McCain is a bailout socialist too. Central economic planning. From each according to his abilities (taxpayers) to each according to his needs (corrupt and mismanaging CEO and corporations).
The elitist in both parties believe they know better how to spend your money than you do.
I may be registered as a Republican but that is just so I can vote. I am really a conservative.
Please find us another Regan before it is too late!
Many members in the 167 have been for some time, now if they can only force others (elected pols and mouth pieces)to do the same, instead of ignoring what people who’ve been elected from their home states to go and represent the consensus of the Party around the country. Unfortunately, many elected “leaders” pretend that the various platform statements do NOT exist and they wind up being the only face of the Party.
“Please find us another Regan before it is too late!”
Found. Her name’s Palin. Just a couple weeks ago she proposed a 7% cut in spending with a more than 50% cut in capital spending. S&P a month ago reaffirmed the state’s AAA credit rating and lauded its financial managmeent.
That’s more Reagan than Reagan ever was.
Looks like maybe he's from Oregon?
What is "capital spending", and what portion of her budget does it constitute?
But, but, he's a great president, a really nice guy and and...Well, in 500 years he'll be a greater president!
I wish him a lot of luck in getting the message out. The articulation of conservative principles is like the tree falling in the forest. No one hears them because the DBM will not report them OR if they do report them, they are accompanied by editorializing about how women and children will starve and old people won't get their medicine.
But it will be a step in the right direction if the articulation of principles even reaches the "choir" and brings some disgruntled folks back on board.
I’m guessing around 7% since most of the proposed cut to the Alaska state budget was capital spending. Capital spending is spending on infrastructure, buildings, other structures, etc.
Say it isn’t so.
Weimaraners are for owners with good taste.
" A group of Republican leaders including the vice-chair of the Republican National Committee say they will try in January to pass a resolution accusing President George Bush and congressional Republican leaders of embracing "socialist" policies. "
Those so-called Republican leaders should focus on thwarting OBAMA's socialist/Marxist agenda, instead of attacking President Bush in the final days of his presidency.
What those Republicans are doing is pathetic, and people here cheering them on seem to enjoy watching the continued destruction of the Republican party and rise of the Democrats. Republican infighting was what got us Obama and the Dem majority in Congress.
Count me in as an independent since I changed my affiliation as soon as McCain was nominated.
If Palin can roust the GOP in 2012, I may rejoin but they get nothing from me or my support until there are radical changes.
I have a Rat Terrier that is the wimpiest, most submissive dog I've ever had. She'll roll on her back if you look at her funny. however, i don't have a picture of her i can link up.
Great timing, they wait for now to issue this, after 5 trillion dollars are already spent?
At the risk of catching Hades on this thread, in general, capital spending is what government is SUPPOSED to be doing.
What government is NOT supposed to be doing is all of this social spending which is driving us bankrupt.
We’ve had Weimaraners for a long time. They are very good family dogs, but you need a big yard for them to be really happy..
I’m not convinced that GWB is a closet socialist. I just thinks he lives to have a Democrat say something nice about him, and they NEVER do!
Maybe if Ramos and Compean were active liberal Democrats, GWB would pardon them.
No, GWB was the de facto campaign manager for Oprah’s Choice. He is responsible for what he face.
From a pragmatic point of view, what the heck is the difference, if the results are always the same?
The Ramoses and Compeans must be appalled at GWB. Imagine how they will feel on Jan. 21.
No, I am celebrating the move away from democRAT-lite governance from the Republican party. If GWB gets tarred with that brush, it’s his own fault.
Well, another Reagan would be too little too late: Anthony Kennedy, Sandra Day O’Connor, King Day, no response to KAL.
You need to find a better photo for a dog to represent the GOP.
I can’t be sure, but it looks like that dog still has a pair.

Too little too late. But we can always hope.
Yes, I agree. Republican infighting, and acting like "Democrat-lite" big-government socialists got us exactly where the Republican (RINO) party is now.
I agree with Solomon Yue and the other conservative Republicans. We must break from the "Democrat-lite" socialist past and begin educating people now about conservative (Reagan) principles so that when it is time to vote in 2010 and 2012, more Americans understand the principles they are voting for/against.
...I don’t know, the libs hate Bush. This might just be another attempt to reach out to moderates and centrists...
We should rebuild the grassroots conservative movement. From the Reagan Revolution of 1980 through the Contract with America in 1994, it was this movement from outside Washington that carried us to the first center-right majority governing coalition in more than 60 years. The problem has not been with conservatism or with our voters.
The problem has been with Republican leaders who forgot who elected them and what values their supporters expected to see implemented in Washington.

When waging political war, you must recognize the battles you can win and those you cannot. Winning the hearts of the people over fiscal conservatism is a lost cause. The only remedy for this excess will be the collapse of the economy in massive debts, or the rebellion of the people over the crushing taxes they have voted for themselves. That’s right, it is not George Bush who is to blame for this demand for government services at public expense, we the people are.
(Prophetic)
Someone has to take a stand against socialism and Bush has not.
"The resolution also opposes President-elect Obama's proposed public works program and supports conservative alternatives," while encouraging the RNC "to engage in vigorous public policy debates consistent with our party platform," said Mr. Bopp
If I just read that correctly, screw them!
Here's what that says to me:
We pubs don't want Obama's socialism, we pubs want "conservative alternatives" to socialism.
2010 is so going to be a democratic year.
It might be too late. The socialists who voted in BO will enjoy their free handouts and continue coming back to the trough for more.
Newt (2008)
From the article:
The RNC’s sole job historically has been to raise money for candidates and to pass the party line down the food chain to state and local leaders. Policy has been set by the party’s congressional leaders and, when a Republican sits in the White House, by the president.
The Bopp-Yue vanguard say they are determined to change that.
“For the past eight years, the RNC has been the political outreach of the White House,” said Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen, another resolution co-sponsor who led the 2006 immigration fight and who opposed Mr. Bush’s “economic policies promoting the ‘ownership society’ because they would eventually lead to the financial meltdown we are currently experiencing.”
“It is now time for the RNC to assert itself in terms of ideas and political philosophy,” Mr. Pullen added. “If we don’t do it now, when will we?”
Instead of promoting party unity to stand against the Democrats and raising money so Republican candidates would have a chance against the Dem machine, they are promoting division among Republicans, to further diminish any chances of the Republicans rising again.
“Someone has to take a stand against socialism and Bush has not.”
They are NOT making a stand against socialism, they are making a stand against Bush. If they wanted to make a stand against socialismm, they would be working on electing more Republicans to counter Obama and the Democrats.
It’s the unfortunate usual circular firing squad, which enabled the Democrats to take over and go Obama elected.
“I could have told them eight years ago he was a closet socialist (compassionate conservatism is socialist light).”
“I have been much concerned that so many people with conservative instincts feel compelled to apologize for them.”
- Barry Goldwater “The Conscience of a Conservative”
What they are doing is the right thing to do. We need some clarity. Some “bright pastels”.
“House Minority Leader John A. Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, both of whom voted for the financial bailout but opposed the auto bailout, declined to comment.”
Bums! Let’s hear it! “We’re not really for small government,” they should say.
“Please find us another Regan before it is too late!”
One is currently governor of Alaska...I suspect there are others...it would be nice if we could have all-conservative choices in our primaries, then the vision to pick the right one...
THANK GOD AND SOMEOME GET ALL THE SHARP INSTRUMENTS AWAY FROM THE BUSH0BOTS!
I recall that many conservatives realized that, back then, but there was the "he's a socialist, but he's OUR socialist" crowd, too. What blew me away was how people were shocked at his immigration stance, when it was obvious for many years prior!
Many Bushbots self-deluded as badly as the 0bama crowd has...and I fear will do so again.
