A group of Republican leaders including the vice-chair of the Republican National Committee say they will try in January to pass a resolution accusing President George Bush and congressional Republican leaders of embracing "socialist" policies. Pretty blunt.

In what would amount to a slap in the face to a sitting Republican president and the party’s Senate and House leaders, national GOP officials, including the vice chairman of the Republican National Committee, are sponsoring a resolution opposing the resort to “socialist” means to save capitalism.
“We can’t be a party of small government, free markets and low taxes while supporting bailouts and nationalizing industries, which lead to big government, socialism and high taxes at the expense of individual liberty and freedoms,” said Solomon Yue, a cosponsor of a resolution that would put the RNC — the party’s national governing body — on the record as opposing the U.S. government bailouts of the financial and auto industries.
Republican National Vice Chairman and constitutional law attorney James Bopp Jr. authored the resolution and is asking the rest of the 168 voting members of the committee to sign it.
“The resolution also opposes President-elect Obama’s proposed public works program and supports conservative alternatives,” while encouraging the RNC “to engage in vigorous public policy debates consistent with our party platform,” Mr. Bopp said.

“Jim Bopp is the author of the no-bailout resolution because he wants to articulate our core principles now, not every four years when we have a presidential election,” said Mr. Yue, an Oregon member of the Committee. “This is based on the thinking that articulating political philosophy is equally important as applying it consistently.”
“Failing to do so, we have today’s identity crisis, which resulted in our losses in 2006 and 2008,” Mr. Yue said. “The bailout is a good example ... In my view, if we are not going to address this, we will see more losses in 2010.”

Many members in the 167 have been for some time, now if they can only force others (elected pols and mouth pieces)to do the same, instead of ignoring what people who’ve been elected from their home states to go and represent the consensus of the Party around the country. Unfortunately, many elected “leaders” pretend that the various platform statements do NOT exist and they wind up being the only face of the Party.

Found. Her name’s Palin. Just a couple weeks ago she proposed a 7% cut in spending with a more than 50% cut in capital spending. S&P a month ago reaffirmed the state’s AAA credit rating and lauded its financial managmeent.

I wish him a lot of luck in getting the message out. The articulation of conservative principles is like the tree falling in the forest. No one hears them because the DBM will not report them OR if they do report them, they are accompanied by editorializing about how women and children will starve and old people won't get their medicine.
But it will be a step in the right direction if the articulation of principles even reaches the "choir" and brings some disgruntled folks back on board.
I’m guessing around 7% since most of the proposed cut to the Alaska state budget was capital spending. Capital spending is spending on infrastructure, buildings, other structures, etc.

Those so-called Republican leaders should focus on thwarting OBAMA's socialist/Marxist agenda, instead of attacking President Bush in the final days of his presidency.
What those Republicans are doing is pathetic, and people here cheering them on seem to enjoy watching the continued destruction of the Republican party and rise of the Democrats. Republican infighting was what got us Obama and the Dem majority in Congress.
Count me in as an independent since I changed my affiliation as soon as McCain was nominated.
If Palin can roust the GOP in 2012, I may rejoin but they get nothing from me or my support until there are radical changes.

Yes, I agree. Republican infighting, and acting like "Democrat-lite" big-government socialists got us exactly where the Republican (RINO) party is now.
I agree with Solomon Yue and the other conservative Republicans. We must break from the "Democrat-lite" socialist past and begin educating people now about conservative (Reagan) principles so that when it is time to vote in 2010 and 2012, more Americans understand the principles they are voting for/against.

When waging political war, you must recognize the battles you can win and those you cannot. Winning the hearts of the people over fiscal conservatism is a lost cause. The only remedy for this excess will be the collapse of the economy in massive debts, or the rebellion of the people over the crushing taxes they have voted for themselves. We pubs don't want Obama's socialism, we pubs want "conservative alternatives" to socialism.
2010 is so going to be a democratic year.

I recall that many conservatives realized that, back then, but there was the "he's a socialist, but he's OUR socialist" crowd, too. What blew me away was how people were shocked at his immigration stance, when it was obvious for many years prior!
Many Bushbots self-deluded as badly as the 0bama crowd has...and I fear will do so again.
