Barack in Limbo
Townhall.com ^ | December 31, 2008 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 01/01/2009 5:31:13 AM PST by Kaslin

As he stands on the sidelines, seemingly oblivious to what's going on in the world, President-elect Barack Obama opts out of the game by proclaiming that there's only one president at a time.

That's another way of saying, "Let George do it," when the Middle East erupts in violence, the economy continues to slump, and the governor of his state defies demands that he step down.

His almost nonchalant approach to the turmoil around him has thus far protected him from adverse reactions from his real base -- the media -- but that immunity from harsh criticism has not extended to his political base, the far left. They are after him hammer and tongs.

Barack Obama will not become president until January 20, but the far left of his party is already blaming him for all sorts of alleged omissions. He seems to have violated the liberal's major shibboleth, "No enemies to the left." He's suddenly acquired a whole slew of them.

He may have chosen a few bomb throwers to serve in his Cabinet or the White House, but that hasn't satisfied the more dainty of the lefties who are appalled at his selection of Pastor Rick Warren, who committed the unpardonable sin of not only opposing gay marriage, but actually promoted Proposition 8, which banned the aberration in California.

Up on Capitol Hill the Democrats are out of sorts because he failed to act more quickly on his planned stimulus package, and Barney Frank -- an openly homosexual Democrat from Massachusetts -- is enraged over the choice of Rick Warren.

They simply don't buy his only-one-president-at-a-time alibi. They want him to start acting presidential now, and all he's been doing in Hawaii is physical exercise (when he's not showing off his pecs to the gaga media).

The left is also unhappy with the economic team he's assembled -- a group of moderates who embrace traditional approaches to economic policies rather than the openly socialistic nostrums the Marxist wing of his party cherishes.

His problem with Congress lies in the fact that Congress never accepts responsibility for anything. They shift whatever blame there is in any situation downtown to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., but wallow in the glory of anything that goes right.

The boys and girls on Capitol Hill were more responsible for the current economic mess that any other entity, but they shift the blame to the Bush administration, which had in fact tried to forestall the crisis and was blocked from acting by such top Democrats as Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd, who were drinking heavily at the money fountains of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac.

The fact that they haven't done anything worthwhile is all Obama's fault, and starting on January 20 they'll blame him for anything that goes wrong. His honeymoon will more quickly resemble a marriage on the brink of divorce rather than a joyous romp at Niagara Falls.

All this, sadly, is simply a sign of the decline now evident in Washington with the utter absence of backbone and leadership.

The taste of Barack Obama's triumphant victory could well turn out to be ashes in his mouth rather than that of honey. He has climbed the hill to the top and found it covered with thorns and thistles and poison ivy, instead of the roses he expected.

Shortly after the Bay of Pigs fiasco, Sen. Barry Goldwater dropped by the White House to see his friend and former Senate colleague President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

When Barry asked him how he was, JFK looked at him, threw up his arms and said "What a lousy fouled up job this has turned out to be."

Welcome to the White House, President Obama. Enjoy your stay. Have a great New Year. You are in our prayers.

And Happy New Year to one and all.

Great piece. The only upside to having Barack occupying the White House is that none of us pundit types will have to search far for material.

ok, in the meantime we are told polls show his “leadership” and decisiveness the reason he has the highest approval rating of any US president since Reagan? What the H?

WASHINGTON (CNN) — A national poll suggests that three-quarters of the public thinks President-elect Barack Obama is a strong and decisive leader, the highest marks for a president-elect on that characteristic in nearly three decades.

During the campaign Obama told us he “had a (big government) plan” to deal with the (big government-induced) financial crisis. The day after he got elected we were told that he was too busy writing “the plan” to do interviews with the media. One month after the election, the “plan” still unfinished, he takes a vacation in Hawaii. I can’t wait for January 20th, when the proverbial rubber meets the proverbial road.

Give Obama credit, he's absolutely right. I can only imagine the outrage here at FR if he was kibbitzing Bush at this point.

Barry is the captain of amateur politics. He’s already shown what a rookie he is, pre- and post-election. Well, we’ll just have to see how Chicago politics translates internationally.

Brackkkkkkkk sure had a BIG MOUTH during the campaign. He was full of ideas and advice, that is right, he was FULL OF IT! I hope he will be a good and fair leader, but I will not hold my breath. I will compliment him when he does something good, I will be critical when he does something stupid. In the meantime, I am NOT holding my breath!

To me Brackkkkkkkkkk is too young, dumb, immature, inexperienced to be president and leader of the free world. And his trip to Hawaii proves it. Out swimming and surfing and whining about the news media following him around and wearing his baseball hat backwards like a little kid. He is a little kid. I have been out of school longer than he has been on the earth. He is just way too young and not smart.

He is way too SKINNY, he has no muscle, and he has MAN BOOBS, NOT pecs! Compare him to a real athlete or body builder. He is a girly man! He needs to work out more and pump up some muscle. I see more muscle at the gals at our local gym.

In contrast, President Bush's working vacation on his ranch in Crawford included scenes like these

I predict that Obama will be messing his pants when he has to make a REAL decision. When ideology meets reality he will find that his ideas will not work. He has already pi$$ed off the far left. And he will make more of his party made at him too. He promised everything to every body. It will be the most secretive presidency ever.

Each day I wake up I wish that all of this happening was just one of my worst possible dreams.

This country has finally been overtaken by the communists and we have yet to know the limits that people will tolerate. I worry that we will tolerate more than we should. We already have in the last months without demanding any accountibility. egads!

January 20th will be historic, but not in a good way.

You are right in more ways than you realize. If 0bama had a similar position on Israel their sharing of information, comments, united front kind of stuff would be fine.

The reality though is 0bama’s position on Israel is diametrically different than anything we’ve ever seen. Democrat or Republican.

Now that Obama has become a leading Presidential candidate, he has assembled a body of foreign policy advisers who signal that a President Obama would likely have an approach towards Israel radically at odds with those of previous Presidents (both Republican and Democrat). A group of experts collected by the Israeli liberal newspaper Haaretz deemed him to be the candidate likely to be least supportive of Israel.

At least we can still complain openly (for now).

I will not be watching the inauguration/coronation.
I will be reading my book FDR’s Folly - How Roosevelt and his new deal PROLONGED the Great Depression
by Jim Powell.

And I am also reading The Great Bubble and its undoing Origins of the Crash - about the past depression/recession/stock market crashes by Roger Lowenstein, and I am seeing the SAME THINGS happening NOW in DC with the bailouts.

And I am reading State of Fear by Michael Crighton about GLOWBULL WARMING HOAX written as fiction, but reads true now, reads like the Al Gore power point show.
