An Obama inaugural ball will be only for military

President-elect Barack Obama will have a Commander in Chief's Ball during his inauguration with military personnel, their spouses and those wounded fighting in the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as guests.

In announcing this Thursday, officials said that tickets for the Jan. 20 military-only ball will be free to guests. The formal event will be at the National Building Museum in Washington.

"It is a privilege to honor our men and women in uniform during our inaugural festivities by continuing the tradition of the Commander in Chief's Ball. Our troops represent the best America has to offer, and without their dedication and sacrifice we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms that we are coming together to celebrate on January 20," Obama said in a statement released while he vacationed here in his native Hawaii.

It’s not that he’ll be spending most of his time there. There must be dozens of balls for this or that group.

He’ll spend a bunch of time just going and coming.

I think that's what Obama meant when he said, "...continuing the tradition of the Commander in Chief's Ball" in his statement.

Michelle has listed “military families” as one of her signature First Lady issues. Continuing on with the Military Ball is in keeping with the care and respect the Obamas hold our troops! //sarc

Ah, thanks for that insight. 1/10 of a kudo to Obama for not deep sixing this. Another 1/10 if he actually attends it.

Really? He voted against funding the troops each time a funding bill without surrender terms came to the Senate floor. He gave aide and comfort to the enemy by saying that we cannot win the war in Iraq. He voted against the surge which gave us victory in Iraq.

But now we should give him credit for a PR thing? Did you really expect him not attend a traditional inauguration ball for the military and now he surprised you by attending? Are we going to lower the standards so much now when dealing with Obama?

The CORRECT headline for this story would be:

“Obama to continue predessors Inaugural Ball honoring US troops”

But the AP-Obama propaganda agency wants the public to believe Obama cares deeply about the military when his actions and statements have demonstrated anything but.

This story is just another example of the utter distortions of national mainstream leftist media outlets in America.

Relax, it’s just a photo-op just like his entire term in office will be, aside from raising taxes, cutting our defenses, taking his new knee pads with him to visit his friends in the mideast and anything that will not benifit the U.S.A..

His downfall will be when he gets between other elected officals and their chances for reelection.

Nobody but nobody in Washington, as an elected offical, will ever fall on the sword for anyone else must less this phoney.

Like Obama’s trips to the Hawaiian Marine Base and it's Gym. I believe that this Military Ball will be treated coolly and politely ignored by the military.
Some may attend, but I'm sure that there will be plenty of elbow room and seating. Only those high brass intent on political climbing will be there.

As Limbaugh has always said, history began this morning for liberals and Obama supporters, and today's events will be erased by tomorrow's.

It's going to be a long four years of style over substance.

My hubby has a few more months active duty. The only reason I would like to attend is so we can turn our backs on OSama when he walks in the room. (Heck, hubby is a short timer so not much chance of reprisal.)

Anyone ever investigate if he ever registered for the draft. Just got to thinking because my oldest received his invitation to register in the mail a couple of weeks ago. Bama should have an SS number if he registered. He was in the right age group. Now if he claimed that he wasn’t a citizen to get out of it.

Ditto: given his political background, I’ve been encouraged by his choices at the Pentagon so far and I think we need to hope (as Americans) that he will continue to make decisions based on his (evolving) personal judgment instead of the left-wing ideology in which he has been steeped.

Did Hussein actually say “Commander IN Chief” corrrectly? A few months ago, the Dolt Hussein was saying “Commander AND Chief”. That was around the time he said he’d visited 57 states and only had one more to visit.

We’ll have a president who’s actually dumber than Bush. How sad is that?

You all seem to have quite strong opinions, especially regarding whether or not Obama supports our troops. He voted against funding (as did McCain on a separate bill) because he didn’t agree with the rest of the bill. And guess what, its okay to question/attack a war or the President’s choices. If no one did, it would mean that 1 person was running the country, not the checks and balances of the 3 arms of the government that is supposed to be for the people and by the people.
My brother was killed by and IED in Iraq, after he was supposed to be done with all of his missions. Its BS. My father is a retired Sgt.Maj. and I supported and still do support Obama. Let’s give him a chance to do his job before assuming he is against our military. The reason I campaigned for him and support him is because I believe he has the best interests of the troops in mind. Because I believe he sees lives instead of winning/losing.
And, even though I despise Pres. Bush for lying about the reasons for a war and therefore sending my brother (who volunteered) to a war under false pretenses, I think that it was great that he started this ball and equally as nice that it will continue under our new President.

First, your brother is a hero for dying for the most noble cause which is fighting to defend our freedom and our way of life. The terrorists made Iraq the center front of the war on terror and it is in Iraq where our troops including falling heroes as your brother have crushed Al Qaeda terrorists.

Now regarding Obama support for the troops. On the final bills to support funding the troops Obama voted NO. McCain voted no on bills that wanted us to surrender in Iraq and thankfully these surrender bills were defeated. Obama voted against the surge that brought us Victory in Iraq. He himself admitted that the surge worked beyond his wildest expectations which proves beyond a shadow of doubt that he has a very weak and very wrong judgments on military and national security matters.

Also 70% of the active duty troops voted for McCain and against Obama so this clearly tells you what the troops feel regarding Obama support to them.

First I did not want to respond to your post since it is totally futile to discuss facts and truth with Obama supporters however I wrote this post just to show the absolute facts and truth. I am not going to convince you and for sure you are not going to convince me.

You can have the last word and I am not going to further respond because it is a waste of my time.
