2009 calendar: Sarah Palin is most wanted
The Telegraph ^ | 12/31/2008

Sarah Palin has continued her quest for world domination with a 2009 calendar that has become a surprising bestseller.

After a rollercoaster year that saw her fail in her US vice-presidential bid but become instead a grandmother and internet phenomenon, the Alaska Governor's 2009 calendar has emerged as the most popular office product on Amazon.com over the festive period.

The calendar, which features 50 candid photos of Mrs Palin, 44, hunting and hanging out with her family, is selling at $15.95 (£11).

Created by Judy Patrick, the former deputy mayor of Wasilla, Alaska - where Mrs Palin was mayor from 1996 to 2002 - John McCain's would-be Veep is pictured with a gun on the cover of the calender, a move that is guaranteed to further endear her to her ultra-conservative fanbase.

With Mrs Palin unlikely to stray too far from the limelight, and rumoured to be considering her own run for the presidency in 2012 it may well turn out that the $290,000 (£194,000) that was spent on her clothing, grooming and cosmetics during her two-month tilt at the vice-presidency may come in useful again.

While Mrs Palin was the surprise calendar hit across the pond, the usual suspects were faring well in the UK. Among Amazon.co.uk's best-selling calendar's of the festive season were a 16-month organiser for busy mums and Page 3 girl Keeley Hazell's 2009 offering .

Other perennial favourites include the legendary Pirelli calendar, this year shot by Peter Beard, known for his wonderful African wildlife shots and his portraits of beautiful barely-clad women, and the Lavazza calendar, this year shot by Annie Leibovitz.

Is it just me or is SP the only VP candidate in history who has endlessly to be described as a failed candidacy?

I swear I’ve never heard the term for a VP going back to a lot of VPs in my lifetime.

Funny, I don't see that as her failure.

I see it as about as much of a failure, as Reagan failing to get the Republican nomination in ‘76, which paved the way for 8 wonderful years between 80 and 88

"After a rollercoaster year that saw her fail in her US vice-presidential bid "

You mean like hillary "failed" in her presidential bid? OR like obama has "failed" to prove he is a natural born citizen of this country? Or was it like Blago "failed" to keep the governors' office honest and above board? Or like Spitzer "failed" to be true to his wife and constituents? Or like Sharpton "failed" to pay his taxes? Or like the previous mayor of Detroit "failed" to hide his dishonest emails?

The guy who wrote this peice also puts kittens and puppies in burlap bags with rocks and throws them in the river.

I think her popularity is well deserved and wish her the best. She has had to contend with a sorry running mate, a misguided party, her gender that not only did not support her, but undercut her at every turn, and the main stream media which would have boiled her in oil, if they thought they could get away with it. But still she is not tarnished and I hope will have the fortitude fight another day.

She's like a lifeguard who dove in to try to save McCain's failing candidacy. As she dragged him to the shore he struggled mightly against being saved and finally broke away, swam out to sea again and was never seen again.

Did John McCain run a campaign? When was this?

The media can’t talk about Palin in any positive terms at all. Even when talking about Iraqi and Caroline Kennedy, the meda finds a way to deride Palin. Given the extreme bias of the MSM, I would support the Fairness Doctrine if it applied to the MSM.

I read that too...the rhetorical sharp elbow about her “ultra-conservative fanbase”.

The guy who wrote this article is clueless about Sara Palin’s appeal.
