Protest at the New School Turns Unruly (Antiwar kids chase former Sen. Bob Kerrey thru NYC streets)

Protests at The New School, where a student uprising over the leadership of the university’s president, Bob Kerrey, led to clashes with the police and at least one arrest on Thursday morning, took another wild turn later on Thursday evening.

A little after 11:30 p.m., Mr. Kerrey emerged from a university building on Fifth Avenue south of 14th Street to a sea of a few hundred protesters chanting for his resignation. As Mr. Kerrey walked down Fifth Avenue toward 12th Street, about 30 protesters began following him, some of them shouting insults.

As the crowd’s pace quickened, so did Mr. Kerrey’s. Then, Mr. Kerrey, who lost a part of his leg in Vietnam and wears a prosthesis, broke into a run. The protesters gave chase. Mr. Kerrey turned left on a cross street and ducked into a brownstone.

At some point in the confrontation, a protester threw a tomato at Mr. Kerrey.

( ... )

Mr. Kerrey, the former governor and United States senator from Nebraska who was given an overwhelming vote of no confidence from the university’s faculty in recent days, showed up at 11:30 a.m. asking to address the dissident students, but they voted not to hear him out.

The student demonstration began Wednesday evening in the ground-floor cafeteria, with about 50 of them staying overnight citing a list of grievances with the Kerrey administration, dating back to his early support of the Iraq war. They adopted a list of eight demands including a greater student voice in university affairs and the resignations of ...

Remember when the dog used to wag it’s tail. Today it’s the tail that wags the dog.

Shouting “we support the troops but not the mission,” no doubt.

“...Mr. Kerrey turned left...”

Surprise, surprise!

This is the same bed of Marxist scum that produced the idea of taking over all 401Ks.

A classic case of what happens when the inmates are put in control of the asylum.

I'm not wishing any physical harm on President-elect "Zero", but if it happens, it will be the same type of people who helped elect him, disappointed because they didn't get everything they felt entitled to get.

When Obama talks about “unity”, I always have to shudder, because I can’t envision being “unified” with a mindset that would tolerate this behavior. You call the cops, you expel every student involved, and if they set foot on the campus again you have them arrested for trespassing. DONE. I just don’t get why this kind of crap is tolerated in any venue, for virtually any reason.

The little punks should have been arrested. They have no "right" to take over that building, assault the director, or do any of the other things they did. I notice they spent some time admiring a video of the creepy anarchist thugs in Greece, evidently a source of inspiration to them.

Alas, now that the punks know that they have a president and his eminence grise (Ayers) who support these things, we can expect to see a lot more "occupations" by the thugs of everything from schools to factories and offices. Things are not going to be good here. Barry will use these people to create a mob-run society that enforces his policies.

Must be the "recreate 68 crowd" regrouping after such a poor performance in the summer. What a poor, miserable, little rabble they are compared to the veterans of former protests and sit ins, with acid and anadins. And now, with a huge number of foreign imports from China, Taiwan, India, and the Middle East, it's an international hatred of America, in NYC America.

What exactly did Kerry do to the school that was so bad? Or was it just Iraq? Were any of their friends drafted and sent to die over there? No, didn't think so. Are they afraid they are next? No again.

What were they going to do if they caught him?

Likely nothing if he hadn't run. Running just triggers the wrong reaction in the pack.

Quoted from the comments......

“I am not protesting. 6000 other students are not protesting. These unruly 100 brats are making a bad name for our school. The New School’s primary problem is money- ousting Bob Kerrey will not improve the school’s finances- I predict- (guess what?) it would get worse.”

This is what I thought was the case. Usually is.

This is the NB Kerry, not the MA one.

The NB Kerry is a “moderate.”

Actually, the students should be told that they are not “equals,” which is what they claim that they should be (if you read the whole article). They are there to learn, not to run the place. If they do not like it, they can go somewhere else.

They are getting treated too well. And evidently they are being taught things in class which cause them to behave the way they do. The university authorities think that the “demonstration” is OK as long as lives and property are not directly damaged, but they do not count disruption, blocking doorways, and making a mess as anything to worry about. In other words, they treat these demonstrating students like babies, and that reinforces the infantile behavior of the “philosophy student” and his followers.

The New School has always been a hot-bed of radicals and communists. It should be regarded as increasingly irrelevant in a age of international economic competition. Who needs more people like these demonstrators? What can they possibly offer society?

I say, stop the state budget to such places, and let them wither. Every time you buy something in New York and pay their 8% sales tax, you are helping fund this. And they still can’t balance the state budget. Heck, in New York they can’t even propose a budget by the deadline date.

From the article's comments: "I am not protesting. 6000 other students are not protesting. These unruly 100 brats are making a bad name for our school."
I also note that it's never mentioned that Kerrey was awarded the Medal of Honor.

A former Navy SEAL who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, and was a Republican at one time now finds out what he has helped to created, and it has turned on him.

Geez, Kerrey once called me an a$$hole, but for Pete's sake, I didn't go chase the guy after he did it.

Yeah, “Peace & Love” is just a facade for the violent left.
