Republicans to flee D.C. for Inauguration
politico.com ^ | 1/2/09 | politico.com

While millions descend on Washington for the historic Inauguration of Barack Obama on Jan. 20, some Republicans see it as an occasion to get out of town.

Out of power on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue and mostly out of favor on K Street, many emasculated elephants in the GOP herd will begin the Age of Obama with what amounts to an extended holiday vacation. Instead of fighting the quadrennial cold and what are expected to be record-setting crowds, they're heading out to greener pastures, with better temperatures, less hassle and more agreeable company.

“What better way to mark the Obama Inauguration (and his millions of adoring fans that will be in D.C.) than to get out of town to fabulous Las Vegas!” Charlie Spies, a Republican lawyer and former CFO to Mitt Romney’s campaign wrote in a blast e-mail to GOP friends. “We hope you can join us for dinner and a fun evening on Monday, Jan. 19, to celebrate the last few hours of our Republican president in the White House.”

Spies and his wife Lisa, a Republican fundraiser, have gotten about 15 takers so far for this last supper or, as they billed it in the e-mail, their own “Inaugural in Exile.”

They’re far from alone. Others will usher in the new era from the slopes, the islands, the NFL playoffs and even on a serendipitously timed honeymoon. Full Democratic control of Washington may be a bitter pill, but it’s easier to get down from a lodge, beach, 50-yard-line or, especially, honeymoon suite.

More sore loser Republicans with little or no dignity. I don’t blame them for avoiding hostile crowds that get shivers running up and down their legs when President-Elect Obama opens his mouth, but do it with discretion, not with loud announcements.

I personally will be en route to DC for the post ObamaCon March for Life.

DC is already a joke of Liberalism gone full-bore. Blacks are in nearly 70% of all public officials, police, fire, etc. and they adhere to every anti-gun, anti-business, high-tax Left Wing program ever invented. There are black programs of every variety, including colleges, schools, libraries, government housing, etc.

It is a cesspool, like every other Democratic, Liberal city. Murder, drugs, poverty and crime are rampant. The corrupt, lazy officials scream for more money to throw at issues that have continued to be swept under the carpet, instead of nipped in the bud with common sense.

Conservatism built this nation, Liberalism is there to hand out spraypaint to deface it.

No one with any sense is going to be in DC from 17-21 January. If anywhere near the 4 million spectators turn up for the inauguration it’s going to be a humanitarian disaster. Worse if it is very cold or [shudder] snows.

Millions of baby-murderers freezing to death? Works for me.

The REpublicans should STAY out of DC - give it over to the Socialists for a year - People who don't already know that DC is a he*l hole of reverse apartheid - has been for years - will begin to get the picture.

it’s going to be a humanitarian disaster

Where are these people going to get the money to make a trip to DC since so many of them are on welfare and supposedly can't feed or house the family without government handouts?!

They seem to be able to find funds when they want which also proves to me they don't need taxpayer's money to live!

I do not know.

I haven’t been following this too closely - flesh and blood can only stand so much - but last I heard they were expecting 10,000 buses.

It’s no so much fleeing as it is avoiding contamination.

Do you know how many diseases some blocks of the democrat party carry?

I wouldn’t be caught there during the infestation with anything less than a level 4 rated bio-hazard suit with helo evac and decon teams standing by at Andrews AFB.

I agree. But I do think it is unfair for the media to even report this. I am sure that Democrats were out of the area during the last two Presidential inaugurals. This is normal if you ask me and does not need a story.

I vividly recall "Resurrection City" lead by Rev Ralph David Abernathy. The encampment used the reflecting pool for the Washington Monument as a pool and urinal. The "campers" engaged in robbery, rape and other mayhem. It rained so much the park "camp" was a muddy mess. When the "campers" were finally evicted from the area, the park service graded the soil, rolled out the sod and restored it to a pristine state.

I'm wondering if this inauguration will be a redux of "Resurrection City". There was a fair bit of rioting that summer as well. My dad could see the "action" from his window at the Pentagon.

Greg Crist, a GOP lobbyist who was willing to be named, said, “I will be pondering the future of my party at a remote location, aided in the conversation by my friend Jack Daniels.”

Mr. Crist has the best idea of all.

I was in DC last March on official business.

I felt like there was some sort of evil spirit hovering over the place.

And to top it all off, the place is crawling with muslims.

That area is the last place on earth I would want to live/work in.

Since Bush and the other RINO’s are socialist, please change that to “the Conservatives should stay out of DC”

I think Mark Steyn said there was to be a convention of Gay/Lesbians in DC right before the Inauguration. I am speculating there will be a lot of violence during that week. I wouldn't go anywhere near DC at that time. I will have a hard enough time avoiding all the fawning Big Media coverage on the 20th.

Why did you change the poster’s use of “black” to “negro”? Was it meant as sarcasm? I’m curious.

Won't go near the place. In fact I am to close as it is in southern VA. The fallout could still get us. I have been to DC in the summer during the "smelly tourist" season. The transit infrastructure can hardly keep up then. The public facilities are inadequate at best. The people I feel for are the museum curators that will have to repair all the damage done and the cleanup required to get the nations museums back in order. The mall area is already a mess with panhandlers (that make more then I do), and thugs. The DC police can't and won't control the whole DC area.

While all the attention is directed to the inauguration areas, the local thugs will be free to raise havoc in the rest of the town. It is going to be bad.

traffic, etc. is bad enough here on a non-inauguration weekend. :(

The Republicans SHOULD get out of DC, and get back in touch with their home communities.. and for God’s sake, revitalize what it means to be a Republican, not some calcified, self-interested RINO.

I try to stay off racist threads, babe.

Anytime the conversation goes to “the magic negro”, I need to not be there.

I dislike Oboma for a lat of reasons, but what color he is isn’t one of them.

Love you.

Wow! 10,000 buses filled with crazy Obamabots! The police are sure gonna be busy. I hope they gave some thought about having the National Guard on standby.

I wonder how many 'Conservatives" ever stop and ponder where we would be today had Gore or Kerry won?

Even today - Bush is the only one, not only in this country, but the world, that is flat out saying that Hamas is to blame for what is happening and that Israel has every right to be doing what they are.

I shudder to think what we're in for...especially from the miscreants (look up the real meaning) of the world who are just biding their time until we have people in power who have a combination of yellow streaks running up their backsides; a hatred for the military and our country and are simpatico with the miscreants of the world.

Enjoy...

One thing you can take to the bank: There are going to be a lot of Bush Bashers that will look back in the years to come and wish someone like him were in charge, pretecting their sorry as*es.
