That’s nice. Now the case will probably result in a decree that these charity cases are ENTITLED to professionally built homes at taxpayer expense, thus taking another private charity into the realm of the public.
What ever happened to “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”?
“Did the Habitat home not have to meet local building codes?”
Excellent question! Please ping me if you receive an answer.
I'm happy to lump scorn on Jimmuh and the Hollywood phonies, and I'll do just that.
However, the two of you make solid points. You can give people a great house and so long as they're used to the gubmint coming along and taking care of all maintenance and repair, the house is going to fall apart.
Home ownership is a big job, no one ever tells you that, and you need some resources - like income from a real, paying job.
You may be able to rely on hand outs from guilt stricken liberals to get the house built, but after the spot-light dims, you're old news, you've served your purpose (publicity) and you're on your own. Your lack of skills that resulted in your inability to buy a house in the first place will doom your hand-out-house to a quick trip to the dung heap.
Liberals and lazy, irresponsible people, perfect together.
Are HforH house exempt from building codes and inspections?
"..Some residents dismiss their neighbours worries. Diennal Fields, 51, said people did not know how to look after their homes: Its simple stuff: if there is mildew, dont get a lawyer, get a bottle of bleach..."
These people don't take care of the property.
I'd like to thrash her. I mean hold her responsible..
I hate this kind of attitude coming from the recipients of charity. If these people are offended by the gift, no one is forcing them to accept it. Other than that, they should be freakin' thankful that someone cared enough to build them a roof over their heads.
Bingo!
We HAVE a winner!
Having worked on more than one Habitat home, I'd be willing to bet these are some of the best-built homes in that county,
but when any place has *no* maintenance, possibly because the residents don't know anything about home maintenance, it'll fall apart!
I might even go so far as to suggest that classes in home care be offered to Habitat homeowners.
You let Jimmy “Habitat for Hamas” Carter build your house, you take your chances.
The purpose of do-gooding is to make the do-gooder feel good about himself at the time of the do-gooding. The consequences are for the other guy.
Same thing happened in reverse. "Snowbird" Yankee contractors built homes in Florida and didn't secure the roofs well enough to the structure. They didn't survive the first hurricane.
**What ever happened to dont look a gift horse in the mouth?**
kinda hard to remember that when the horse DROPS DEAD. /sarc
Was always proud of Habitat and always jumped in whenever I can. My problem with all this is ... When the big hurricane his Homestead, Florida (Andrew?[sorry, getting old]) a handful of houses survived.. and they were all HABITAT homes.
Leave it to Carter and Hollywierd to Screw it up... guess I’ll go back to driving a TAXI
Didn’t they get the places free, or at a very low cost? Now suing? Wow...Libs at their best.
First schadenfreude of 2009!
When and where might have than been? We’ve been under Dade County requirements pretty much in the entire state since Andrew. That means cbs construction and very strict inspections - regardless of who the contractors and subs are.
It takes quite a storm to tear those houses down.
No friend of the peanut-farmer/Shah-stabber here, but I've heard no complaints of his time in the service.
Wow he can do all that work without a speck of dirt. Not his hands, hat, shirt, even his tool belt.
