Former DNC chief announces Virginia governor run [Terry McAuliffe]
WTOP-TV / The Associated Press ^ | January 4, 2009 | Michael Felberbaum

Posted on 01/03/2009 11:52:48 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe said on Saturday he intends to run for governor of Virginia.

After months of speculation over his plans, McAuliffe announced his intentions in a video posted on his Web site. In the video, McAuliffe said he will make his intention to run official on Wednesday as part of a week-long campaign kickoff.

The stops include town hall meetings in Hampton Roads, Bristol, Richmond and others, where McAuliffe will unveil plans for job creation, education and renewable energy.

"Over the coming months we will travel to every corner of the commonwealth to ask all Virginians to join our campaign to get the economy moving again," McAuliffe said in the video.

In November, the 51-year-old established his campaign committee, Friends of Terry McAuliffe, with the State Board of Elections, secured the services of strategist Mike Henry and began touring Virginia, but had not made his candidacy certain.

McAuliffe faces two other Democrats who have been active for nearly a year in an already contentious nomination fight to succeed Democratic Gov. Timothy M. Kaine.

State Sen. Creigh Deeds narrowly lost the attorney general's race in 2005, and former House Democratic Caucus chairman Brian Moran is also in the race.

"We welcome Terry McAuliffe to the race and we're looking forward to an open and honest discussion of how we keep Virginia moving forward," said Peter Jackson, a spokesman for Deeds.

In a statement, Moran also welcomed McAuliffe to the campaign.

"I am more convinced than ever that Virginians want a governor with a proven record of fighting for Virginia families and a vision for the commonwealth," Moran said.

Virginia has elected Jim Webb, and Mark Warner, not to mention a Dem to replace Tom Davis. Will they continue their march to the left by electing a disgusting Clintonista like Terry “The Punk” McAuliffe??!?!??!

While US politics has shocked me over the past 4 years (well, more, but let’s just focus on recent times), I cannot see how this thug can get elected in a relatively conservative state. I know VA has undergone a shift these past two election cycles, but McAuliffe doesn’t have the charisma to overshadow the thuggery. Webb won by a gnat’s eyelash and the others on Obama coattails if I am not mistaken.

If Terry does in fact run, I think that could be an advantage for the Republicans to bring the state back under control. He’s a loser and incapable of managing anything short of Global Crossing deals. After all, this is the guy that was head of the DNC during the virtual slaughters of 2000, 2002, and 2004.

If the president of the United States fetes the Clintons in the White House, presents them with portraits, declines ever to criticize them, appoints the disgraced, impeached president to world relief missions, he tells the world that the Clinton regime was not corrupt!

He tells the world that his own party was worse than mistaken, it was driven by partisan ambition in its opposition to Clinton. It says that the impeachment put the country at risk for petty party advantage. It utterly cut the legs out from the conservative position.

Bush might have softened some of the left-wing criticism against him, and prepared the way for his presentation by the historians as a peacemaker and statesman, someone above petty party politics, but he has ruined the party which he parasitically occupied.

Now comes Terry McAuliffe from whom no rational man would buy a used car after hearing him speak for five minutes, and he is, thanks to Bush, a perfectly acceptable candidate for the governorship of the Old Dominion. He will win too if he can get past the primary. No one will have more money to spend. No one will have a better organization in place. His governorship is virtually guaranteed.

So far has the Republican party sunk by the selfishness of its leader and the fecklessness and corruption of its elected representatives, that an absurd mouthpiece for a disgraced impeached president is a virtual shoo-in for the governorship of a state in the old Confederacy. We are now in a place where we cannot defend Virginia and North Carolina. We cannot convince the electorate that Magic Negro, a loudmouth tax cheating comedian, and a wheeler dealer who fronted for the Clintons are all unworthy of national or statewide office.

No need to look to the stars, the fault is our own.

The RNC needs to nail this piece of garbage to the wall regarding his dealings with Gary Winnick's Global Crossing vapor of a company.

I still do not know why John Ashcroft's Dept. of Justice did not make all/some of GX's white collar thugs in $3,000 suits do nickle-plated hand cuff wearing perp walks to a federal prison.

Terry McAuliffe... it is just capitalism right... where you got to turn $100,000 into +16,000,000 where in my case my 3,000 investment in GX turned to worthless toilet paper?

It will because the northern section of the state has been infested by liberal imports from Maryland, DC and Delaware, who ran from their lib states and converted VA to what it is they ran from. This time 8 years ago, we had a GOP Governor and two GOP Senators. And now it’s turned so hard to the left we can’t even keep Virgil Goode in office. VA is deep blue now.

It won’t matter. Democrats are “in” in VA, now. The only way McAuliffe won’t be elected is to lose in the primary.

Goode’s district didn’t vote for the False Messiah. Goode lost because he overreacted to his Dem opponent and ran some ads that rubbed the folks in his district the wrong way. A lighter touch, and he would’ve won again. The seat should come back to us in ‘10.

25 posts and no viable GOP alternative is mentioned. The problem isn’t that MAuliffe is a “punk,” it’s that the GOP is devoid of any leadership within the state.

I would not have thought in 1999 that within ten years, VA would be among the most heavily Democrat states in the country, but the pendulum has swung, and Virginians are too conservative, too informed, and too-Washingtonian, to move it back.

Virginians are “conservative” in that they are slow to change directions. If the train is headed left, most simply hop on board for the ride and waiting for the “freebies”.

WV is still liberal too, but it is competitive at the presidential level but hardly anywhere else. I did not think I would live to see the day that WV went Republican for president and VA went Democrat, but it happened with the popular Oprah’s Choice. People are awaiting “change”, they think.

Terry M. should be campaigning for appointment to the open US Senate seat from NY. He IS a New Yorker, IIRC. Guess he realized he can’t compete with Caroline Kennedy for Gov. Paterson’s support......

If a corrupt liberal Clintonista twit like McAuliffe can get himself elected Gov. of Virginia then the country truly is lost. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen!
