Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | Allison Steele

Carrying signs and hoisting Palestinian flags high in the air, about 200 people gathered outside City Hall yesterday to protest Israel's attacks on Gaza.

Organized by the Philadelphia branch of the International Action Center, the rally was one of many demonstrations held across the country and the world yesterday to condemn Israel's air strikes.

You mean...These comments?

"The tax money that we pay, to think that it is used that way is a great shame," said Ali Shaath, 25.

Shaath immigrated to Philadelphia from Gaza six years ago to run a flooring business. The events of the past week have made it difficult to be away, he said. "I have family. I wish I could be there," Shaath said.

Or the last one?

Bert Strieb, 70, a semiretired professor at La Salle University, said America needed to exert some financial muscle over Israel. "As long as Israel has the United States' backing, they have no reason to back down," he said.

IMO, Hamas blew it. Israel has every right to defend herself.

Why do these useful idiots think it is wrong for Israel to defend itself, is very puzzling.

Exiled Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal had promised bloodshed if the Israeli ground troops moved in.

Why is this guy in America? Why is he walking the streets of Philly? Hamas is a Foreign Terrorist Organization in the U.S. and also in Canada, the EU, Japan, Australia, and the UK.

Israel has every right to defend itself. I fully support what they are doing. Hamas is another Arab terrorist organization that needs to be put down like a rabid dog

I don’t see any signs demanding that Hamas stop rocketing Israeli towns and civilians.

That was the policy publicly announced by Hamas and carried out immediately after breaking their hudna (cease fire).

And why are those Palis in America?

Let’s ship the protesters off to a rocket impact area in the South Israel, chain them in an open field....and wait.

One of these may very well have been his father - what has ever changed - and why are people as dumb as rocks in America?

Those comments are not what I was referring to...I believe the comments section scrolls a little funny...At the time I saw the comments I mentioned, they might have become buried or removed by the website...

The Hamas Palestinians are reaping what they’ve sewn for years of stupid moves on their part...

Granted, I believe the Israeli govt. has done a lot to irritate the situation as well...The everyday Israeli and Palestinians are not as contentious as one would be led to believe, but during times like this, those very people do tend to give each other some space to work things out, till the time comes that the forces arrayed against each other get the kinks out and settle down...

The common knowledge is that this is never, ever going to get ironed out completely...No matter how sweet the deal is...

BTW, if you are wondering how I came up with my conclusion, I happen to work directly with a hodgepodge of individuals whose opinion I hold in high regard...And when we get to talking, you’d think I would be the one getting beat up...nahhh...

That group (all over here on work visas) is comprised of an Israeli, a Palestinian Christian, Iranian, and a couple of Indians (one a Sihk, and the other a Hindu)

You can imagine what my Monday morning os going to be like...

The IAC is another Communist group.
Why these people aren't in Federal Prison or Tried then shot for Treason beats me.

They are openly subversive and proud about it.

200 protesters.

Awesome!

This Philly place must be a village because any good sized town could produce more than that number of protesters for just about any issue or even just for the hell of it.

The reporter taking crowd interviews comes up with two Palestinians and a semi-retired university professor. It says something about the make-up of the gathering.

Note the overwhelming pro Israel tenor of the comments. Comments usually reflect the readership and the readership usually reflects the editorial stance of the paper. Yet the tone of the article was not particularly friendly to Israel.

I had misunderstood which comments you had referred to; another poster set me straight.

Yes, your Monday morning is going to be "interesting". :)

I guess I must not have been following this as closely as yourself, however, it seems to me that Israel in giving up the Gaza to the Palestinians has FAR more generous and to the 1964 Treaty than any other nation involved. Which makes the Israelis quite generous from my perspective. Yes, yes... Hamas militants do not see this quite the same way. And nor do their American professional protestors....
