I’m a ‘GipperGal’ as well, but if you believe the head of the program didn’t know the eligibility requirements or whether Palin used her influence to get him in, you are perhaps more gullible than the average Freeper, perhaps particularly committed to not giving Palin’s enemies potential ammunition from a conservative board such as this. I don’t know.

How is it possible that the governor's soon-to-be son-in-law, Levi Johnston, is working as an apprentice on the North Slope?"

Is there some requirement to be an apprentice that Levi isn't meeting? Does the article mention anything? If not, then they're just trying to stir up trouble, which isn't surprising. There are 40% of Alaskans who do not support Gov. Palin, including many in the leadership of the Republican Party, because she hasn't shown the proper submissiveness to them.

Do you think he’s the ONLY person ever to be taken into the apprenticeship program without technically meeting all the requirements? If he’s finishing up his high school work, online, then he’s not a ‘drop-out’, as some in the MSM are claiming.

Heard on the slope… ASRC has several new contracts coming on line in 2007 with Pioneer and Shell Oil. I also heard that they are having a difficult time finding experienced hires so now must hire inexperienced/entry level applicants and train them on the job.

Click here and scroll. If they were struggling for people then, with new contracts coming in now, think how desperate they are now. I'll keep looking though. If I can find sources I can call I will (which is quite scary to me)

Take a look at this post and then come talk to me.

A boom in business means you need lots of people and are willing to hire and train them and cut them some slack when they don't meet all the criteria (by "cutting some slack" I mean allowing them to train while they complete their GED).

And here's a thought: why do you suppose Johnston decided to seek the apprenticeship right now and complete his GED by correspondence? Possibly because the apprenticeships were open due to the increased work following the AGIA contract and if he waited until he finished high school he would have to compete with all the other recent grads? Just a thought.

Please note that the apprenticeship has nothing to do with the government. It's not a government job. ASRC is a private company. If they gave Johnston preferential treatment, that's their business. But from the looks of it, they had a lot of positions open and were willing to train people.

I've got to admit, I wondered about an 18-year-old high school student's eligibility for an electrician's apprentice program when I heard Levi was enrolled in one.

Back in my day the age for entering an apprenticeship was 15. They changed it to finishing high school. The quality of those entering apprenticeships was NOT improved.

Ha! Back in your day I bet the average 15yo had the work maturity of a 25yo today.

Note that below the photos of Sarah Palin and Oprah Winfrey there is a smaller photo of Palin with the headline next to it “A week of babies and exposed lies” — so that one is even worse than the larger headline above, because it is in a box immediately next to (and containing) the photo of Gov. Palin — i.e., the lower headline is even more explicitly designed to associate “babies and exposed lies” solely with Gov. Palin.
